  • Camera men inquiry at solo event

I have a friend who is into photography and filming and he will be attending Sunday's October 20th event. He wanted me to ask how close he could be to the course. He wants to be close enough to get cool shots but far enough to not raise concern and of course, be safe. And if there are any other rules pertaining to camera men that he should know, I will forward to him. He should have awesome shots of most of the cars and I can try to post them here.

If at first you don't succeed, you probably put it in the ditch.

A photographer will be allowed to safely go out on course providing they have a spotter and explicit permission from the safety steward for that particular run group. It typically isn't a problem to accommodate such a request as long as the safety steward is consulted.

To further Rod's point, with approval from the residing Safety Steward and a spotter to watch his back, he could get as close as the worker stations, which are rather close.

I don't think we have been enforcing the rule of a vest, but if he (and preferably his spotter as well) has an orange or yellow safety vest (like construction workers wear), wearing it would be a good idea.

Lastly, it's always a good idea when you're letting the Safety Steward know who you are and that you'll be on course, ask him/her if there is anywhere on course they'd like you to specifically NOT go. Sometimes they may ask that even with a spotter, certain areas/stations are just not a good place to have a camera.

As long as he's polite and safe, and adhere to the Safety Steward's requests, there are no issues with him getting as (reasonably and safely) close as he needs!
