  • Sorry if this is a dumb question but...

I have searched, and I didn't see that this has been answered previously, but I am finally in a position where I have the means to participate in Solo events. Long story short, could I register for an event in the middle of the season and participate as a novice?

    Thanks for looking!

Absolutely! Your novice status begins when you do, not any given point during the season.

Our next event is on September 15th (a Sunday), at the usual location of Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham. Online registration will open up a couple weeks prior, so keep an eye out here on the forum for the link to that.

We look forward to seeing you out there!

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. Now my only hope is that there will be an experienced driver willing to help a newbie like me out.

Also, will there be a problem if my wife were to come and watch as well? Is there a "spectator" area? Sorry for the deluge of questions, I would just like to get a good feel for the do's and don'ts.

        Yes. No. Yes. No problem.

Spectators are always welcome. The biggest advantage of the novice program is our Novice leaders will help make sure you get a ride (or more) with experienced folks and also get someone to ride with you, especially if you are having difficulty reading the course. In addition...don't be bashful! If you'd like someone to ride with you, or to ride with someone, just ask. Most folks will be glad to help, especially early in the runs. The only bad time to ask is during the last few runs of the session when folks are going for their best possible times, especially if they are in tight battle within their class.

Be sure to get to the event early...like about 730 or so. Give yourself plenty of time to get your car ready, get it teched, and get registered. Registration and tech close about 9am so get it done as early as possible.

Get Tech'd BEFORE you register please Some get stuck in line at the registration and don't make it back to their car in time to get it to tech and it puts extra work on the tech folks when we need to prep our cars having to tech the late folks. There is usually little to no wait time at the tech box.

Getting "TECHed" in case you didn't know means that our tech inspectors will look over you car and make sure it is safe for autox. We check lug nuts, brakes, tread on the tires or lack thereof and look dripping fluids. Be sure to remove any loose items from your car BEFORE you get the car teched. We also have some blue painters tape so you can add the class numbers and letters once you find out where you car runs. What kind of car do you drive? Maybe we can help you get in the right class before the event. If you need any help or have any questions at the event, you can ask just about anyone. We look out for one another.

Eh? Why force someone into struggling to find info when all of us that have done this for years can offer guidance and make the process as pain free as possible? My first event, I had no clue what to do or where to go. A couple of the regulars showed me the process and made it easy to get started. Had they been all secretive, I probably would have moved on.

                      Why not share that knowledge?

No I meant searching on forum is.... Nvm.

There are far too many adults on this forum to get this. Usually when someone asks question on forums on other forums they tell the op to search.

True. I hope our forum doesn't get that way. I hope it doesn't alienate people like many other forums, so often, do.
