Possible change to the stock class

At least they're changing the name to "street" class. Stock should be just that, stock. Of course I didn't read it all because my mind would explode due to the writers of these rules trying to make everything as confusing as they possibly can.Heath Patterson

Its not bad. I am glad they (SCCA Solo Board) are realizing that the rules have become so outdated that its ridiculous. I'm glad they are finally changing the tire rules to go to minimum 140 Treadwear in 2014 and 200 Treadwear in 2015. Although, they are also now allowing camber plates and shocks with two adjustment points. Hmmm....but its a least a step in the right direction.Mark K

I read it all 5 mins after it hit my email. I'm still dizzy
I thought the whole Road Tire classing made the Solo book start to feel heavy (on my phone) heh
Should be interesting, but I think I've got a home in ST for another year or so.Charley D'Ambrose

Sounds good to me. It's been far too long where a stock car, while pretty much stock, had the most expensive factor of the car turned up to 11 - tires.
I think it will be good for the sport as a whole, and might make stock classes repopulate with people who can't afford to run r-comps, or just don't want to.M. Cholewa
Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

Depending on what size you need, the Dunlop ZII is already approaching that number....my 275/35/18 were 280 eachOriginally posted by bimmertech View PostI like it, but I'm not convinced there won't be a $300, 200 treadwear tire that will be"the" competitive tire to have in 2015.

Opening up front and rear sway bars could help a lot of cheap cars get closer. The "right" car with upgrades will still win, but it helps. On most modern FWD cars a rear sway bar is cheaper, easier to install, and makes more difference than changing struts.Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

There's a sway bar allowance in the current stock rules, but you can only change one. The new rules would allow both bars to be changed so now you will spend $500 instead of $250Originally posted by Focus View PostOpening up front and rear sway bars could help a lot of cheap cars get closer. You would still be able to replace struts under the new rules but they will be limited to double adjustables.
No more triple-adjustable, remote reservoir shocks in stock class. That does go a long way to reducing costs as you can be competitive with $4500 shocks vs $12000 shocks.
It will be interesting to see what all the effects are if it passes.

Double adjustable is the current rule. The new spec would make remote reservoirs illegal. I think the remote reservoirs are primarily a benefit in road racing where heat is a big factor (?).Originally posted by bimmertech View PostNo more triple-adjustable, remote reservoir shocks in stock class. But I have double remote reservoir shocks and therefore am hoping they will drop the no remote clause.John Allen 52BS

I thought only the front sway bar was allowed right now. That's usually more complicated than struts. We know real car$ have shocks and sway bars on both ends. I was talking about cheaper cars. That MacPherson guy really kicked us in the knee.Erik B.

During your autocross sabbatical the Stock class sway bar rule was revised to allow you to change either the front or rear sway. Went into effect in 2012 I believe.Originally posted by Focus View PostI thought only the front sway bar was allowed right now.Rod H
