Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Huntsville Bound? Sound Restrictions MFS

As a condition of using MFS, we had to agree to a sound restriction of 96 db and to monitor the level during our events.

96 db, Mark discovered his mistake.

BTW, we have had sound policy at MFS since the first year running there. We only pulled it out for obvious violators but this year it will be rigorously enforced.

I think most of our guys are good on this. A year or two back Chuck had the sound meter out at the TnT and the only car that exceeded 99db was that s2000 with basically open headers.

I know the volvo came in right at 91db without the backfires, and I always thought that thing was loud. Maybe people can chime in if they remember how loud their cars were. 96db at 50 feet is pretty loud.

The e30's are pretty regular at 95db to 96db at both the Amphitheater and at TGPR. I believe C's evo with the open dump pipe was around 93db or so, maybe it was a bit more. 96db is pretty loud, and most people will pass sound, especially in the Stock and Street Prepared classes. The rotary cars are always loud, but using turn down pipes or the such can always help that.

Maybe we can get the sound equipment from Chuck and run it at the Test n Tune so that our group members can know if there is a problem before they head up to HSV.

That would be nice if we can pull that off, you wouldn't have to run it all day and not even for all cars.

The meter's calibration isn't current, but I'm sure it's at least as accurate as a consumer model, which is what I think they're using at MFS.

I will probably not be able to make it to the T&T. I will be at BMP Saturday (2 Feb.) I might be able to pass it to someone then.

I can meet up with you Chuck. We need to get the calibration done anyway. So you can let Michael Cholewa know what you need to get that done.

Just PM me and we can work out what we need to do as far as your schedule is.

Does it need to be calibrated? I know last year you thought it did and it turned out not needing it.

Calibration is required annually for Club Racing. Since it's just over a year since the last trip to the cal lab, IIRC, it'll be fine. Any variation from spot on will be exceeded by the other variables that will be involved, such as weather. I wouldn't bet on it being back in time if we sent it to the lab now, anyway.

If you're within 5dBA of the limit, you should do something before you go north, where it will be a DQ, so a tenth or two won't make much difference in the real world.

Remember, 3 dBA louder is twice as loud. 6 dBA is 4 times as loud. A tenth ain't much, by comparison.
