Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Calling all course designers!

As the 2013 season is about to begin, I think it is about time we found a few dependable individuals to take on one of the more important tasks of hosting a great Solo event; course designing.

Last season, we had several people pick an event that they were sure they would be able to attend to commit to designing a course for that event. This was great, as it gave the designers plenty of time to refine a design well before their map was ready to be put to the test.

This year, I'd like to do the same thing again. If you've ever been interested in designing a course, or think you could do better than you've seen in the past, now is your chance! All we ask is that you look through the rule book a little to understand the basic safety requirements, and perhaps browse this thread to pick up a few tips on the accepted standards of Solo course design.

Check the thread here to see the dates of this season, and see if you know you'll be available for any of them. If you are, and would like to give this wonderful challenge a go, let us know by replying to this thread. Once we have enough people to cover the dates, an email list will be created so we can keep up with who is doing what, and when.

If you'd like to learn more about course design and would like to be involved in the process, but aren't sure you're ready to take on the responsibility of an entire event by yourself, that's okay too! You can team up with some of the more experienced designers and shadow them as they show you the ropes.

Remember: this is a volunteer club and without members willing to take on the important roles, no one gets to have any fun at all, and that sucks. So don't be shy, and help out your local members!

I would like to set up the first 2 events in Feb to get ready for the Nat Tour in March. A Test n Tune course will hopefully contain the constant features needed to make tire pressure, shock adjustment, swaybar adjustment and alignment changes necessary to maximize the handling of the car so that the "nut" behind the wheel can concentrate on driving. A combination of constant radius sweepers, same spacing slaloms, braking zones and offset gates will allow drivers to evaluate the car's understeer, oversteer, balance, braking and trail braking characteristics. I look forward to attempt to have a healthy autocross season this year (as do many others on this board). Let the games begin!

PS-I will be glad to share any of my limited knowledge with courses and setup with those that are "stirred and not shaken" by a well seasoned (old) autocrosser!

Like I said in my first thread, I hope to join you guys at some events this year. While its tough for me to commit to a date (hectic work schedule, and that whole "my car isn't running" thing), I'd be more than happy to help when I manage to show up. I was the primary course designer for a few years in MS region.
