Forum will no longer be utilized!
After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.
Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.
What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

I was thinking more of a constant wheel size and varying tire sizes. I've already seen the results from wheel size changes. C&D did a good test that was very relevant to me, using a golf and going from 15-19'' wheels. I'm more interested in seeing if say, on a 16x7, the difference between the same tire in like, 195/60, 205/60, 205/55, 215/55, 215/50, 225/50, etc.Originally posted by Sparky View PostM. Cholewa
Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

That is tire dependent depending on sidewall construction. Toyo R1Rs for example don't oversize well at all. RS3s are only slightly better. Once you get into R compounds it's a different story. V710s do pretty well and with A6s it's literally as wide a tire as you can shoehorn onto the rim.Originally posted by Cholewa View PostI was thinking more of a constant wheel size and varying tire sizes. I like the yellow stuffs, but they still won't brake like the RX8 does. For that you need a lot less mass, or much larger brakes. Plus, Dennis probably runs some pretty aggressive pads. The Yellows are still a hybrid, much like the common Ferodo DS2500s for Evos.Originally posted by HPEVOX View PostIt's not even fair. And yeah ... those FTDs are nice. But I did it on street tires. =)Matt W.

Nope I run ceramic pads which have less grip than stock pads but increased modulation for trail braking. As long as you can get into the ABS, better pads won't help for autox, that's a track thing where heat kills performance.Originally posted by TouringBubble View PostI like the yellow stuffs, but they still won't brake like the RX8 does. that's true ... I have not considered that ...
The difference is all mass and tire then.Matt W.

Yeah i have a fat car lol. Hopefully the yellows will pair good with the Hoosiers though. Gotta see what I can do to reduce some weight without gutting my car.Originally posted by TouringBubble View PostI like the yellow stuffs, but they still won't brake like the RX8 does. Brakes? You just need a lighter car. Kill the speed with turn in and get back on it!

Just sayin', maybe you are wanting to use EBC for a specific reason, but you do get discounts on the Porterfield Brake website, 20% off Hawk and Porterfield pads if I'm not mistaken. Log on to SCCA.com and then go to your member page, look under automotive discounts and then codes are there.
If you are wanting to use EBC for a specific reason, then by all means, disregard what I am saying.
I have a skinny car. I use Hawk pads, HPplus, stops like crazy, not too much dust, they don't scream at me when I touch the brake pedal, and they last a long time. But that is just me. I like discounts too.John Kilgore...if winning was easy, losers would do it.

Actually I was pretty happy with the HPS on the Miata for a while. Noticeably better than stock at TGPR, and did not make anywhere near the dust as the Carbotechs I have now (which according to internetz wisdom are a low dust option).
On the plus side, the Carbotechs were great at TGPR and Barber, and these are their AX6 "autocross" compound, not one of the XP_ track pads. The are a definite step up from the HPS.Rod H

I went from the stockers to HPS the first time and it was a huge downgrade on my car. It was like i lost brakes. My car weighs about 1000lbs more than yours Rod LOL. The reds were a few steps up from the hps and a step up from stock ferodos. I think i will go with the HP+.Heath Patterson
