Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Need some tire help, Nitto NT01

We need a little help with some tires, hoosier's just arent enough to run 2 drivers on the crossfire. Im trying to decide if the Nitto Nt01 would fit, I know a few guys run these on the G35's and was hoping you could help me out, only thing I need is a measurment of the tread width and overall height, just to see if it would clear the car.

    Thank you

I'm running the NT01's on my G35, with 225/40/18's on the front, and 245/40/18's on the rear. I measured the rear's at 25.5" tall and about 9.5" wide, which is pretty close to the spec per http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/nt01#size.

Let me know if you have any other questions...I'll be glad to help!

you should run 245 in the front. Makes a big difference.

I have actually been considering that, but a little worried about the rollover onto the sidewalls being worse with 245's on an 8" rim (front). On the Nitto's I'm already running 50 PSI cold to keep them from rolling over. I bought a used set of the R-S3's that I'm going to run after the Nitto's are trashed, and they are all 245's, so I guess I'll find out pretty soon. Thoughts?

it should be fine. I am going to run 255s on a 8.5 in wheel next year.

50 psi to keep them from rolling over? Is your front suspension 20 years old or something?

No, it's a G35 with no camber adjustment, and the sidewalls on the Nitto's are kinda soft, and there's a lot of weight in the front end, etc. I was running the Dunlop Star Specs at 40 in the front, so was pretty surprised that I had to keep going up on the NT01's to keep them from rolling over. It took me 3 events of chalking the sidewalls to convince myself that that was the right pressure...now after 6 events (dual drivers) the tires are almost shot and I'm thinking about trying the Hankook R-S3's next!! The joys of autocross!

If I get 6 full events with Carville and I driving I would consider that a win

Last event I ran 30 in the front and 28 in the rear. The rs-3s never rolled over.

Have you ever taken tire temps during an autox?

Yes, I have done it fairly consistently since getting the NT01's (still trying to convince myself that the pressures are right!). I'm typically seeing temps in the 140-160 deg range and within 10 deg F across the tires, usually with the highest temps on the outside of the fronts and the inside of the rears.

I really love the tires and they feel great and are very consistent and predictable...but unfortunately I cannot afford to replace tires 3X/year.

The RS3's are a great tire. I dont think you will see much of a disadvantage going with that from the NT01.

FYI, biggest tire you can squeeze on the rim is usually the winner for AX. first year of the "new" AS class we took my friends Ed and Mickeys Boxster to nationals. went with 255/285 on 8" and 9" rims. I got 3rd. the car that took 1 & 2 squeezed 285's on all four corners of thier cayman. and you could visibly see the difference on course with the cars running. ours was pushing in places where thiers wasnt. lesson learned.

Note that Trigger says "usually". I believe his comment mainly applies to r-comps. Street tires have to be more carefully matched to rim width. The 225/45-15 RS3 is a good case in point. It is good on a 7.5" wheel, better on an 8", and best on a 9".

Rod, that is pretty standard practice on any tire. A wide tire on a narrow rim will have more overall grip than a narrower tire, but will not have the transitional response of the same wide tire on a wide wheel. So, turn in is better on the 9" wheel but mid corner grip is about the same between the 7.5" and the 9".

                              At least, in theory ...
