  • Virtual AutoCross Official Thread...

The date has been set for Sunday the 21st. Get here when ya get here, stay until you want to leave . I am thining that we should start the official timed runs at 1pm. This will give folks that aren't as comfortable with the Sim aspect of this a chance to come in and practice a bit before we start timing and keeping track of things.

My goal is to have 5 or 6 courses that none of us have turned a lap on when we start the timing. Each driver will get a virtual walkthrough consisting of a top down view of the course and then a slow drive through. I think the only way to do this would be to run all three runs when you are in the seat. This will allow everyone to come to grips with the course a bit better I think. If this turns out not to be the case we can do our walkthrough and one run then switch to the next driver and so on. Just depends on how everyone gets along with things.

Hope to see you guys on the 21st.

i would be interested in seeing how bad you fast drivers can beat me on a simulator!

also, i was thinking i could bring my 360 w/ forza 2 for some lighter entertainment between heats. do you still have the hd bigscreen in the room w/ your simulator?

I have Gran Turismo 5 and a PS3 with a decent wheel on the big screen. I can't stand Forza. If that makes me some sort of cyber snob then so be it.

see that? thats a jedi in the corner w/ his nose in the air!
seriously though, gt5 would be great! i don't have ps3 much less gt5. plus i don't have to lug my stuff around.

any way, what's wrong with forza? other than being an arcade race game, not a real driving sim. of course it's not as accurate as the gtr series or lfs, but i don't see that gt has anything on it.

on a related note, have you heard about race pro for the 360 coming out in january? for those that haven't its by simbin (of gtr fame) & is rumored to be a realatively straight port of gtr for the 360. of course it won't have all the details & will be much more scalable for skill level than gtr, but it should be the most realistic driving sim on any console.

you mentioned coming by earlier to get a few runs in to get a feel for the game, how early are you talking about?

If you want to get here as early as 9:30-10 that's fine with me.

I am a snob when it comes to all things Motorsport, can't be helped. Race Pro may or may not see the light of day. It was supposed to be out over a year ago and Microsoft shelved it because they feared it would put a dent in their Forza audience. I am curious to see how watered down it will be if it makes it to the stores. Honestly, my biggest issue with the 360 is it not having anything close to a decent wheel. I bought the 360 wheel. Brought it home and drove Forza2 for about 30 minutes, boxed the wheel up and took it directly back. It was horrible. I'm being a snob again aren't I?

youre right about the wheel, but the only other one available is from madcatz. what kind of wheel do you have for the ps3? any wheel is better than driving w/ a joystick. i just wish that someone woould make a box to allow you to use pc wheels on the 360. i would buy the logitech wheel in a heart beat.

do you have resistance, resistance 2 or little big planet? that & gt5 are about the only games for the ps3 i'm interested in.

i'll probably come buy around 10-11 to get a few laps in early.

I have LBP, don't really do the first person shooter thing. I have the orange box, but I really don't like it all that much. I had Grid, but it was awful. See ya in the am on the 21st sir.

grid's AI is the best I have seen on a console, physics were a lil lacking, but, AI was good

Sean, are we building tracks to bring or are you providing them? I know Ervin has built a few on my machine (with rather interesting names i might add) and I was going to build a few as well. Just not sure if I should throw a few together or spend a bit of time and ass one or 2 to my public courses.

yeah, build away. I'm going to build a couple as well. We need to build and not drive the ones we're going to use though.

My plan is to build one from start to finish and then drive it to see if it's actually driveable w/o testing it along the way. If it is, I'll build a few more and not put a car on them and submit those. Or, would it be acceptable to make some slow passes to verify the course, but not "run" it?

Also, I was wondering if it would be cool to invite some of the guys I race with online? We could start a server and PW it and I could post the PW on our forum for those that might want to join.

yeah, we could do some online stuff for those that think it's too far to drive. Only problem would be making sure they do a walk through and then 3 runs and done for the times stuff. Tis a trust thing, lol.

If you guys know a few that would like to come over but haven't gotten an invite, by all means bring em along. If you would be cool with them in your house then I'm cool with them in mine!

I don't think it would be an issue for them to only run those 3 times. I trust the guys that we race with. There is no glory in cheating.

                              Sean,

I'll try to construct a few courses for the event. This sort of thing should be supported and I wish I could be there. I could not convince my wife of the necessity of this event, so I can't be there personally. I might try to join online, though.
