Chuck, I need to get the sound equipment from you for the next autocross scheduled for April 7th. If you are planning to come that will be great, we can just set it up and run it during the event. If not, then I need to get it from you, or have you deliver it to C or Sara so they can bring it.

I will have my e30 with a new exhaust on it, as well as Mark's e30 with his new exhaust and we need to determine how loud our cars are so that we can make adjustments if need be before AMP in June. I'm not sure if Road Atl has sound restrictions, but I am also not sure that either of us are going over there for a one day TT in May.

Thanks. If you have any questions just email me.

This will not be necessary. We will have sound control set up at TGPR on the 14th and 15th, with the Divisional Administrator of Sound Control, Jim Eckert in charge. This is for the purpose of helping people who plan to run AMP, primarily, and to let everybody else know how they are doing, as well.

The Road Atlanta limit is the standard SCCA Club Racing limit - 103 dBa.

BTW, to really know what's going on, you have to set up the meter in compliance with the GCR and the Sound Control manual. There are specific settings required on the meter, you must be 50 feet from the edge of the track, there can be no other cars within a zone 50 feet before and after the meter, etc. A reading taken at a Solo event can't be taken as gospel. Also, weather conditions, shift points, general background noise and even driver resolve affect the readings, so it's better to do this kind of testing in a controlled environment such as TGPR.

It was my understanding that Road Atlanta no longer had a limit-at least for national competition anyway...

I was there helping to enforce it at the double rational, last month.

Even SCCA Pro has limits in many of their events, albeit higher than the Club Racing limits.

The Club allows waivers at certain tracks, such as Nashville, but not Road Atlanta.

What is your source for this, BTW? I haven't seen it in writing. On the other hand, I haven't looked around to find out, either.

Good to know. Sara says my car is loud. I'm not sure I believe her. She doesn't even check hood pins at grid.

                  According to Butch...

Licensee will enforce AMP noise limits of 98 decibels at 50 feet from the outside edge of the Driving Course. AMP runs counter-clockwise. No un-muffled engines may be revved before 8:45 am or after 5:30 pm. Anyone caught “lifting” near the sound meters to try and cheat the meters will be immediately asked to leave the Motorsports Park and not allowed to return at AMP’s discretion. Anyone not meeting the 98 decibel limit above must become compliant, quit running, or leave the Facilities. At two failed attempts the participant is no longer allowed to run for that day. If these terms are not adhered to AMP could receive a fine from the City of Dawsonville for $1,000, which Licensee will be responsible to pay.
