Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Do you want to design solo courses?

We at Alabama region SCCA have had great designers past and present. Nick Vagner stepped up last year and started designing courses for us, and has done an excellent job. But sometimes, everyone wants a little variety. A different set of eyes may bring a whole new dimension to our parking lot courses. Nick doesn't always want to design a course, and he has asked that someone else come in and design courses sometimes. In our discussions, Mark and Nick and I feel that the best way to continue keeping solo courses fresh is to bring in new blood to design a course, that will not only teach a whole new group of people a skill, but also provide inspiration for those of us that have designed courses before.

So with that said, please PM or email Mark Kilgore or myself at mark.kilgo at gmail or kilgojr at gmail with your name and your schedule events that you plan to attend. We will begin to make a list of those interested and we will make a schedule for events and which people will design and/or shadow for courses. Remember, course design is more then just laying out some cones. It is a very difficult skill that requires constant tweaking. There are many rules that have to be followed for insurance purposes, and rules that have to be followed for each type of designed element.

Course designers need to arrive at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater at 6:30 am (or a little earlier) with their design ready to go. If this sounds like something you want to do, or maybe you are interested to see what goes into designing a course then please contact us and we will begin making schedules.

    Thanks in advance.

    Tentative schedule update:
    April 7th - John W8
    May 20th - Michael Cholewa
    June 30th - John W8
    July 15th - Ervin Carder
    July 29th - Nick Vagner
    Aug 19th - Mark Kilgore
    Sept 16th - Dennis Sparks
    Oct 14th - Nick Vagner
Nov 4th - John and Mark

Designing a course can be a lot of fun, especially when you get compliments on features you were careful to implement. On the flip side, if you're going to step up to course design, you have to be ready that not everyone will love your brain child as much as you, and you can't let it get to you.

I enjoy making the courses and am thankful for the opportunity to server the Club in such a way, but there are so many people here that have been participating in solo events longer than I've even been a licensed driver, and I just think it would be nice to get "different flavors" of courses, so that we as a region can keep things interesting, and so that the drivers of our region will never quite know what to expect.

I love designing and honestly miss it in a huge way. My problem last year that will more than likely carry over to this year is NEVER BEING IN TOWN on the event days. I hope to attend more than 1 event this year and if I know I can make it will absolutely lend a hand.

We have the April, May, and June dates taken care of for course designers. Does anyone else have dates they are specifically interested in taking for course design? Remember, this has to be a date that you are sure to make, and will be able to show up around 6:15am on the day of the event. Please email myself or Mark at the email linked on the original post.

Remember, if you are looking to become involved with course design please make sure that you get with Mark Kilgore, or myself and take care to shadow a course designer, or pick a date from the above open dates and let us know.
