I always thought miata's had to have a roll bar. I know the rule used to be you had to have one. Isn't that a girl car anyway?

It was worker laps. There was a big ass 4x4 pickup doing it with us.

Had it been the PDX it would have been a different story. He would have had to have a roll bar with the 4inch rule, or a hard top.

That's the 2 inch rule. If it was 4 inches no one taller than 5' would ever be able to track a Miata.

Cholewa normally exaggerates 2 inches to 4 inches.

Just to close out... Might look more likely than I thought for my car.

After I put taillights in back in it. John, it has no lights at this time.

However, my "new to me" 1986 mustang has a cage.... :-) But it too would need taillights.

Just might have to think about that....I think it would be fun in a car like mine..

Thanks everyone for your input on my situation.

Now back to your previously scheduled thread.....

I hope you can make it out to the event Sean. I think you'd have a blast. And for the threadjacking, that's what we do best.

                      11.1. PDX (LEVEL 1)

At PDX (Level 1) events, any car that is street legal will NOT require a roll bar/roll cage, except for Convertibles and Targa* top automobiles. These cars must have either a roll bar meeting Section 11 of the TTR, a non-mechanical factory roll bar/roll over protection (i.e. no pop-ups), or a factory hard top using the factory mounting hardware and mounting points..

11.1.1.B. For the purposes of this determination only, street legal will be defined as a car which meets local requirements for inspection (if applicable) and the car in question must possess CURRENT, VALID registration. If this street legal requirement is not met, then the roll bar requirement as stated in this section shall apply.

I think the first line answers Lyle question and the question in general for convertibles and a PDX.

The second line tells me Seans car would have to have a valid registration as well as the tail lights to be considered street legal.

I personally think it's silly to require the car be "street legal" just to do a track day. There are folks that build track cars out there for the sole reason of writing it off if the have a wreck. Not something you'd feel good about driving your wifes car, daily driver etc. This is why I bought a racecar, so I wouldn't wreck my CSP car on track.
Tail lights are a good idea on track though.

My understanding is 11.1 is simply saying that a street legal car, except for convertibles, does not require a cage/bar. It is not saying only street legal cars are allowed in a PDX. A non-street-legal car must meet the safety requirements for it's appropriate class.

We have frequently had non-street legal racecars in the PDX groups.

I was speaking to Seans car and the fact that it's a SOLO car but currently not street legal (no taillights and no cage) Wait! Does the car have a cage? Been a log time since I've see the Ittners.

THe 2000 does not have one... however, the '86 GT does... still no taillights, but that can be remedied probably.

I'm sure you left some of the wiring intact back there, just wire in some little trailer lights and tape them on or something.

Don't want to sound the one to butt heads, but why aren't events like this posted on the website calender? I'm trying to find this year's autoX and track events, and nothing is on the website. I keep having to sift through forums, and sometimes I discover them too late.

Soooo, what's the point of a website calender if its not going to be utilized?
