  • New to the area

Hello, my name is Brandon. I'm going to be relocating to the Birmingham area and am looking forward to meeting the local SCCA crowd. I currently live in Nashville and run Solo occasionally. I'm going to be relocated by the first week in February and wanted to get familiarized with how you guys run things by the time the season starts up. I drive a 1983 Mazda RX7. Its a bone stock FB with a 12a. The only exception is that I had to replace the clutch fan with an electric one a while back when it went out. I've been running E stock in Nashville. Anyway just wanted to say hello and if there's anything I should know just chime in. Thank you in advance.

Hello Brandon, glad you are moving to the area. I think you will enjoy it, and find the ALSCCA a good group of people to be around. My brother, Mark, and I run the Solo events. We are running our events at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Pelham, AL. We open the gates at 7:30 am and registration/tech begins at 8:00 am. Drivers meeting is at 9:30 am and first car out is between 9:45 and 10:00 am. At this point we are planning to run two run groups, lunch, two run groups and then fun runs at the end of the day (not always fun runs, but we do them alot).

You can register online at this link as well as prepay for events. However, saying that, you do not have to prepay or even pre register, we just appreciate pre-registering so that we have a better idea of how many are planned to show up and planning run groups.

Stay tuned to the forum here because the majority of information happens here. We also have a Facebook page, but most information is on here.

Looking forward to seeing you at the events, and maybe before hand at one of our socials (we do those right, guys?)

Thanks for the greetings. Sounds pretty strait forward. I'm already setup on AXWare per other info I found on the site which was a little different but I can see it making things much more efficient. You mentioned two run groups before and after lunch, how many runs per person are we talking? I'm accustomed to getting 6 or more runs, approx 1 min each depending on the car. The good news is the lot where you guys run is 20 min from my new place, and so is Barber Motorsport Park! I've already started explaining that one to the wife. I'm pretty much glued to the forum here already looking for updates. Looked at some videos of you guys on youtube as well. Hope to see you guys/girls out on the track!

Yeah, you will get a minimum of 6 runs. Sometimes we are able to do more. We had single lap courses last year that ranged from 39 to 59 seconds and one two lap course that was over 80 seconds. Most courses are high second gear and some were third gear for most of our cars. I think you will enjoy it. Last year was our first year at this lot and we definitely had some learning and growing pains. This year should be much smoother, and lend itself to good growth.

I got into 4th a few times in the diesel

We're laid back, so just show up somewhat on time and don't have your car falling apart and you'll be good to go.

Dont worry, Cholewa drives a diesel VW and a 80 something Volvo. They are pretty much always falling apart.

                          MPG? Wow. That's sad.

Anywhoo, welcome to the area Brandon. I hope you are ready to dodge some of those pesky cones.

on an autocross course that's not terrible. It's better than the 3-5 most cars get.
