  • Hello!

This appears to be the most active forum in the middle of the night here so here is my first post.

I have a busted 95 240sx with 260(!)k miles on it everything stock and I just today ordered the s15 hlsd for it. I have had this car since I was 18 (27 now) and never did anything with it but use it for my "daily driver", to use the parlance of our times. I have a feeling after spending real $ on it today though that it will snowball into a huge hole in my wallet.

Somehow the wikipedia article on lsd(the car kind) led me to the autocross wiki article, which prompted me to look up and see if there are any of these types of clubs in my area. I am hoping maybe I can get into this "sport" or "hobby?" and it would provide something to actually do with an upgraded 240sx rather than just get me into trouble.....

I wish I could say I can contribute to your group, but since my car knowledge is still in the stages of learning the names of all the parts on a car....... Hopefully you can abide a leech!

Also my real name is Shaddix. I'm a guy, my first name is Lindsay, my middle name is Shaddix, so I go by that.

nice to see you interested Shaddix. I also own a 95 240 and have been autoxing it and tracking it as well as daily driving it since 2005. I have been pretty satisfied with it . Great choice on the HLSD by the way. The VLSD is a huge let down performance wise . Our season generally starts in mid to lat February with a Test n Tune and then we generally have 10-11 monthly autox events as well as a club race on labor day weekend and a couple of track trial events ...one in the spring and one in the fall. Dont sweat the lack of automotive knowledge ...our club features quite a wide demographic range coming form virtually all walks of life and professions .

Stay tuned to these forums for information regarding club functions and events .

      Thanks for the reply!

February! Gives me some time to read up I guess.... maybe find a driving class XD. Presuming the KA lasts until then, of course.

I am relieved to hear you say that about the HLSD, I am still wondering if that was money well spent.

Your first autox will be more of a driving class than anything else you could pay a bunch of money for. Don't worry about making the car fast at first. Learn to drive it for at least the first season. Once you get fast as it is you will actually be able to feel the things you change and wether they were a good change or not. It's much easier to make a car slower than it is to make it faster. In fact most of the time the easiest way to drop a couple seconds is to change drivers.

          heyhey EWaugh!

I feel like I have to at least swap out the stock springs and shocks on my 240 as they are probably blown to bits after 260k miles.

About changing drivers, are you suggesting to smuggle a midget driver into the car with me and let him drive on my lap?

What you do with a midget is none of my business. But yeah, the car needs to be in decent shape mechanically, just avoid a turbo, coil overs, camber plates, turbos, and boosted volvos. Maintence is good, go fast stuff is bad for now

Stage 0 - or as close as possible before you come out is a good idea.

Replace all the vacuum lines, new shocks/struts that aren't blown, wheel bearings, plugs/wires/etc.

Get it up to fresh off the factory floor condition (parts wise, it doesn't have to look pretty) and you've got a great starting point. You don't want things rattling loose and falling off in the middle of a run, or hoses breaking apart, or anything like that.

That being said, come on out, have some fun in the sun, meet some new people, enjoy getting to know your car. It's a great community we've got and I'm sure you'll fit right in.

I will give a shot at replacing the vacuum tubes and wheel bearings. I may just tear it all to pieces but we will see!

Thanks for the kind welcome, hope I can make some new friends.

just kick the tires , tune it up, make sure all of the lugnuts are tight and in place, make sure the battery is bolted down, make sure the brakes are good and the steering is tight and the car should pass tech just fine.

Chuck was only confused because he was around when Vacuum tubes came out. It'll be like me trying to explain to grandchildren what the world was like before cell phones.

Alright guys, tune it down let not scare the newbie away.

Shaddix welcome to Alscca my name is C and when u come out to the event(s) me and my wife Sara we will help u out with general informations and guide u to where u need to go. I say first step for you is to perhaps general maintenence, change the fluids, bleed ur brakes system, and make sure that all ur wheels studs are on the car and make sure that no parts are leaking fluids. Before the events, empty out all loose items on ur car, CDs, floormats, etc. Get to the event early so that you an double check everything and get ur car tech, walk the course and register.

So hope to see you out there!!!! C
