  • Kuhmo xs questions.

Ive talked to a few of you guys about these tires but would like some more input and I know A Lot of you guys are driving on the Kuhmo Xs ku36's and had a few questions, im looking to get a better tire for autocross only, but I do live in montgomery and would have to drive 120 miles each race, has anybody gotten a decent amount of miles from these tires? Are they good for the money, I found all 4 for about $440 shipped which seems like a good price. Only bad thing ive heard is in the wet they are slippery?
So all in all is it a good tire for the money? I do not have a tire trailer yet and can not get a6's so what do you guys think of the kuhmos?

    Thank you

I've daily driven every set of autocross tires I've owned, and I would get a year out of all of them. The Hankooks I ran before the star specs balded out right around 10k...

I would say, so long as you rotate frequently, and keep your pressures looking good, you'll be fine. I never had any issues in deep water with any of the high performance summers, they worked better than all seasons.

I can't say anything worthwhile on the life span driving 120 miles each way, but I can say the XS are slippery in the wet when driving on the street....compared to a typical all season.

I also took them on trips too and from the beach and didn't have any issues. The key to longevity is not driving like an ass all the time, and not pushing too hard at the autocross.

Also, keep in mind, the tires I used were at the old lot, where you could ruin a set of Rcomps in 6 runs.

I can't recommend daily driving on Kumhos. But, if you are talking just mounting them and then driving 120 miles to and from the event, they will be fine. It's not that they are bad as daily tires, they will just wear quickly. Like Cholewa said, they will be bald in 10k. But, the real kicker is that they will heat cycle out a bit before that if you drive them every day. After 5k or so, they will likely not have the grip you want anymore if heat cycled daily.

As far as wet traction, I've had no issues. If you are driving hard enough on the street to really test the wet traction of these tires, you should probably slow down. The XS are definitely a lot better than my old RS2s which I daily'd on. After 4k miles or so they became rocks and the car would hydroplane everywhere with just minor inputs.

Also, they flat spot BADLY when sitting for a while. I can't imagine how bad it will be in the colder months...

jack stands. car apart. tires in the corner. that is what the colder months are for. no flat spots.

(or that is what all the time is for if you blow your car up all the time like me)
