  • Roll Bars for NA Miata

I have been looking into getting a roll bar for my '90. I've been looking at the Hard Dog ones on their website and I saw where only certain ones were approved for SOLO I or NASA HPDE events. I don't plan on running anything other than AutoX. Are there any restrictions on which roll bar I can get for AutoX. I took my soft top and frame off a few weeks ago in anticipation of getting my coilovers but they are not here yet so I guess I will be running the event next weekend in CSP with a stock car and no soft top!!!

Any recommendations on which roll bar to get?

If you are planning to run autocross only, do not get a roll bar. They are heavy and taking off weight is like adding horsepower.

I agree with wally, unless you are going to do some track days, i would not spend the $$$. If you decide to get one, keep your money local and use Kirk.

I had read about not getting one solely for AutoX as the added weight offset the added stiffness, etc but wanted to get everyone's opinion. Sounds like it mirrors the general opinion I have heard too!

Yeah, the only reason I have one is for track days. For autocross it makes a wonderfully stable but overweight camera mount . I would take it out to save the weight but my car is so underprepped there are lots of other things I would do first.

If you do decide for one, I second Jackson's suggestion to stay local with Kirk Racing. Mark is a good friend and did mine.

Save your money Zach! The stiffness benefit of the rollbar can't compare to the weight savings. Miata's are horsepower challenged and benefit greatly from being lower in weight.

If you go to the track with the car then by all means get a bar that you can remove easily

Kirk makes a nice bar that's a bit more extensive than the Hard dog bars, cheaper too I think.
