  • Help with some info for a rookie.

How do I join ALSCCA? Who assigns numbers or how are they assigned? I am planning to run my NC in CS Novice and I need to order numbers now to be ready for the first event at Oak Mountain.

I'm also looking for a helmet and looks like I am going to have to order one on line unless anyone knows a good place in town to buy one. I have been to 3 motorcycle dealerships and getting a legal helmet (M2005) locally is going to be difficult.

    Thanks,

You can join online or at the event. From time to time there are incentives offered to join. I'm not sure if ALSCCA has one going on now or not. To get started at your first event you can use painters tape to make your letters and numbers. The club even has loaner helmets so you don't "have" to buy one right away.

A good place to buy helmets online is motorcyclegear.com.

The simplest way to join SCCA its to give them a call. You can get the number from scca.org. I believe you still get a discount for up to two weekend memberships plus a discount for you and a member by turning in the member as a referral. The SCCA itself has nothing to do with the autocross numbers.

          Hey Rod,
Met you couple of times last year. Made a run with Eric and Darryl rode with me in my first solo at Hville. Don't I still need to join Alscca also? Can you shed some light on how numbers are assigned at the events? I see that some guys keep the same numbers. How does it work?

            Barry,

It was good to speak to you tonight. Hopefully I answered more questions than I created I'll look for you at the next event.

You choose which numbers you want to run in your class. If a registered member already has those numbers you pick again. anything from 1-99 is good. Once you pick your numbers, they're yours for the season.

When you join SCCA they ask you which region you'll be joining, and part of your registration fees will go towards your ALSCCA dues.

Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

by the way, the CS numbers taken in axware are: 3,6,9,19,37,55,71,84,184

STR numbers in axware (or recently used) are: 5,7,9,10,23,74,90,97,174,190,197

this is not necessarily exhaustive, but does give you some guidance. The best thing to do is just work with registration at the next event to help you pick a number.
