Black Dog Motorsports is just about ready for the 2011 SCCA Solo Season. Fresh off their multiple championships in 2010 the team is busily getting ready for 2011 events with Atlanta Region, Alabama Region, as well as a National Tour and the SEDiv Championship.
Our first major announcement is that we have landed a sponsorship deal. C.L. Fairbanks Consulting has come onboard with the team for the coming season. C.L. Fairbanks Consulting, located in Evansville, IN, is a leader in assisting organizations with Lean Manufacturing, Profit Improvement, and Process Development.
Our other major announcement is that this will be the last season for us in SCCA Solo, as a V6 powered car. It has been decided by the team that we need to take the equipment to the next level, and for us that means going to a V8. Most everyone in the C-Prepared class runs a V8, with varying levels of overall horsepower. We will be looking for solid horsepower and torque figures from our new motor. We have a few items we will likely be trying with the V6 engine, however most of the development of that motor will stop in order to prepare for the V8.
The team will be taking this year to develop the plan, acquire the necessary parts, and then over the next winter execute the plan to convert the car. This will also mean going farther away from a “stock” car. We will be assisted in this effort by fellow CP competitors, like Robert Lewis who helped us make the decision and will be building the motor for us, as well as Randy Pajer who is local here in Atlanta and has helped us with our car before. We are busy making lists of all the things that we will need to account for in this conversion.
At the end of last year we changed the differential in the car to a PowerTrax unit, removing the stock Ford Traction-Lok. In our initial testing in December this unit allowed us to stay on the gas when cornering without spinning the inside wheel. Our first event in 2011 will be a test-n-tune event here in Atlanta to spend more time working on the necessary changes to driving styles that this new differential dictates.
Over the winter we also acquired a set of inexpensive scales which we can use to better understand the car’s weight and balance on all four corners. The car is adjustable on all four corners, so we might as well use that.
One last thing, Yes, we will be updating the website during the month of February. Finally. We will be working to make it more straightforward and easier to keep up to date during the season.
Thanks for all your support and we will be updating you as the season goes along.
