This. Is. So. True! Hahaha! Don't worry, keep at it and you will improve, especially by getting others to ride with you! That always helps me a LOT

The course was awesome. I almost forgot how crappy the pavement was while focusing on the features.

        It's not a bug, it's a feature. ;^)

Seriously, I've seen a lot worse crossings at BRC, but any time you have a complaint about a course, the latest time you should bring it up is after your first run. After that, you've essentially signed off on the layout by virtue of the fact that you've continued to participate. If you're not comfortable, you should make your concerns known to the SSS or the event chair, and, if you're not convinced that your issue is corrected, you have a responsibility to withdraw from competition.

Safety is everybody's business. Maintaining a safe program helps keep people and cars from being hurt and keeps them coming back. Nobody wants to insult the course designer, but everybody makes mistakes, on occasion. That's why the Club has the Solo Safety Steward program - checks and balances.

I've tried to design a small course, and, as a result of those failed efforts, have a hard time faulting design decisions made by others. Some designers use lots of cones, others like to use as few as possible. Both argue that their course is easier to see. Some like fast, flowing courses, others want to test your memory or your brakes and tires. All should agree that safety should be at the front of the design process.

The driveway crossings are a recurring problem at BRC, and I've only really been worried a couple of times. I should have spoken up, then. None of us should be mute if we think something is not safe.

With that said, once I started driving the course that was there, instead of the one I imagined, I had a great time - fast downhill into a slow, off-camber pin turn, trail braking out of a short slalom into a box feature, off-camber into another slalom, etc.

        I love this stuff!

I didn't have an issue with the crossing. I mean, yeah, I was at least lifting a wheel crossing it according to my revs, but I didn't feel like there was a safety issue or that there was a severely increased chance of damaging my vehicle in that crossing. For me, I don't think it was speed, but the angle of attack that made the car unhappy. if it wasn't a lane change feature (left to right) I think all 4 would have stayed planted at the speed I took it.

I'm with chuck though ... I came back after lunch and drove the course that was there, not the one I expected after the walk. That, plus not wussing out on the first "turnaround," gave me 2 sec on my morning time.

I'll probably pick up some track wheels and tires for next season. Right now, I think my biggest problems have more to do with me spending the last 10 years driving 4wd trucks and not zippy little cars.

I wouldn't even waste money on expensive tires, just upgrade to some decent summer tires, something under 300 tread wear rated, and you'll feel a lot more comfortable with the car.
