Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Clutch vibration question ... SPEC Stage III

Okay, so most of you know I installed a new clutch ... it's a SPEC Stage III (6-puck sprung hub) and I used a resurfaced stock flywheel with it.

    Here is my issue ...

When I have to slip the clutch a bit, up a hill or similar, I'm getting an unnerving high frequency vibration though the pedal during engagement. There is some noise too, but I can't explain it that well ... a low metal/metal groan maybe. The vibration feel kinda like a cell phone vibrating though the pedal (in frequency).

I really want to believe that it's just the aggressive clutch material that doesn't like slipping, but I wanted some opinions. Other than this issue, and some minor balance vibration around 2500 RPM, the clutch is great. It holds fine, engages great and doesn't make much noise.

I know Bill uses the un-sprung version of this clutch which has the same material ... what about anyone else? Any similar experience? Any thoughts?

hmmm i've driven a twin disc clutch on an Evo before and i know you had to slip it a lot and there was a lot of clutch chatter but yours is not a twin. you dont think it's just clutch chatter? any of the guys on Evom have that clutch?

I guess it could be chatter, but I thought "chatter" was a lower frequency and more violent.

yea i had clutch chatter before replacing mine a year ago and it really shakes it. I would think it might be slippage b/c the pressure plate might be to strong to allow noticeable chatter, and make it more of a vibration, but I'm no expert. Just guessin. I would try a few mitsu. forums and see if anyone else has answers.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Sorry to break it to you guys, but the clutch is fine after engagement, so it WILL be raced for the rest of the season. And, since I still haven't swapped the rear bushings, it's even still BSP legal for now ... lol.

I tried a SPEC 6 puck sprung disc once and it chattered fom the very beginning and FAILED in spectacular fashion at Barbers with about 30 hours of use on it . It broke in the center and totally scattered. I had to be flat towed off the track and then I trailered it out and quickly removed that GARBAGE from my car and put a proven solid sprung disk back in the car .

This was 2 years ago or so . I am sure I still have photos of the aftermath somewhere if you need motivation. I might add that I only have 133 HP not 400 like you.

HA..I had the same problem with my Rx7...years and years ago at Steele...It may have something to do with shifting at above 9k that completely shattered my Spec StageIII clutch. But the stage two I had in my 240 works fine. so...yeah hit or miss i guess. C

PS: have u tried adjusting the padel??

Yes, I've adjusted the pedal. The Stage III has a very short engagement range, so I tried my best to get it where it feels comfortable to me. It still grabs really high in the pedal travel, but I'm confident that it's fully disengaged now, where I wasn't sure of that with the stock adjustment.
