  • Can't be there tomorrow...sry!

Hey, sry everyone, I won't be making it tomorrow. I was working as a volunteer today at the talladega gran prix track and was dedicated to helping due to him finally calling me back to help him after a whole month. The night before, I was working on my wife's dad's truck doing a transmission fluid and filter change. One of the pan bolts broke, so I had to drill and tap a new hole, which was frustrating. I got home late and had to be at the gran prix track at 7am. I woke up and ate a couple of granola bars, then felt tired and had some spells where I couldn't remember what I was doing. I stopped, got an orange juice, and worked the track till around 11:30am when I woke up in an ambulance. I woke up in the hospital and they said they didn't find anything wrong and was cleared to go. The guy at the track said I was laughing with him when I fell over and was still shaking, so he called the medics. I've had this before in december and went to a neurologist and they didn't find anything. As far as my body, I have bitten my tongue, badly, both times and this time a little scratched up from falling in the gravel. Anyone have any ideas? No one else seems to be able to find the problem. The symptoms before it happens is usually being tired and having little short term memory loss spurts. Well thanks for listening, I guess I'll see yall at the next event. sry

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

sorry to hear this! it sounds like you had a seziure to me, cant believe they just let you leave like that. a lot of times they will restrict your driving if you have more than one. you might want to try to follow up with another dr. good luck and feel better soon!

Man that is freakin terrible....I hope you get that sorted out . I have experienced that very problem but they all were associated with way too many alcoholic beverages. J/K ..I hope you are in the joking mood.On a serious note...It sounds as if you may need to look into the possibility that you may be hypoglycemic (just a guess).I have a son who has been diabetic since the age of 7 so the synptoms match pretty good with a low blood sugar episode.

Hope you get to the bottom of it .I hope it wasnt a siezure man. That could really restrict your ability to drive safely

thanks, yea thats what i thought too but i don't know. I was drinking plenty of water and had a couple of extra granola bars with me. Also, I had three or four butterscotch candies in my pocket and was sucking on one, but spit it out about thirty minutes before. Still gonna get a sugar test though and try some other tests.

Hope you get it figured out and can come back out soon.
I used to have relatively mild low blood sugar episodes. It certainly sounds fitting from the description of being tired, not eating much and working or being in the sun. Falling down and the shakes make sense to me, but idk about memory loss. The weird thing to me would be that they didn't figure that out at the hospital. Don't take our word here for it. You should probably get that second opinion.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

I've had similar issues. I just pass out for no reason ... sitting at my desk at work, eating lunch, exercising ... no real connection. I've had full neuro and cardio workups, been on a few different medications as well all to no avail.

Basically, they think I just get dehydrated really easily. Soduim levels get out of whack and I hit the ground. Now, I just try to be sure I'm hydrated ... I have to remind myself.

The one symptom I can easily notice is that when I sit down for food or whatever, I drink A LOT. If there is a drink in front of me, I down it. If you have a similar habit, we could share an ailment.

Either way, I hope they find out whats wrong with you. It took me about 6 years to get any kind of real answer, and still no treatment really. Good luck man.

It sounds like you're having a small seizure. Probably due to lack of sleep and food. You're brain needs sleep, and nutrients. During the sleeping process, your brain sort of resets itself. It undergoes a process called homeostasis. This process is vital to its proper functioning. If you get very little sleep and then very little food it can cause the molecules in your brain to get out of whack. Similar to something that happens with Matt. Especially when you consider low sodium levels. Sodium ions are vitally important to proper neuron functioning. A neuron cannot properly fire action potentials without the right concentrations of sodium, calcium, and potassium. If any of these molecules get out of whack, you can induce improper neuron firing. That improper firing is the reason for your short term memory loss. Seizures typically occur in the temporal region of the brain (the sides). In this region is the structure called the hippocampus which is the memory station for the brain. Improper functioning of neurons in the hippocampus will cause your memory loss. If you feel like you're starting to have these memory loss spells, you need to sit down, get out of the heat and get some fluids and food. Fluids themselves could actually be harmful if you don't get out of the sun and get some food. We'll save that lecture for another time.

There will be a pop quiz on this at the driver's meeting in the morning!!!!!!!!!

I know ALL about action potentials, I think i''ll be ok.

Along with what mark said, you should probably keep some real simple foods with you at all times. Keep some simple sugars ready like hard candies, gummy things, chocolates, etc, and also try to keep some good salty stuff nearby. (I keep a case of 1oz cheezit bags in my car, peanut butter crackers are good too) Ingesting the food is great, but waiting for it to break down and be absorbed can take a while, so the simpler the better.

Go see a physician and report all that you have mentioned here. Just because one MD did not find anything doesn't meen that nothing is wrong. Just passing out can be due to low blood sugar, dehydration, low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance, or something else. The shaking (which sounds like a seizure), is a result of body imbalance or neurological problems. Both can be treated if the source is found. You don't want to be driving when this happens. Go as soon as possible. Please.

It sounds like a seizure, especially when you said you bit your tongue... Epilepsy is defined as just "more than one seizure"... and seizures can range from grand mal (falling on the ground and "shaking") to simply smelling weird smells, like smelling paint when no one else does. It's just an area of increased neurological activity, where your neurons are firing when they shouldn't. What you had sounds like a pretty classic seizure to me (but can't say that for sure), I would go to a physician like Clay said.. and as most others have mentioned here (just to reiterate)... the abnormal neurological activity can be triggered by many things, including abnormal blood sugar, dehydration, abnormal sleep patters... etc. Epilepsy (if they find it to be that) can be treated medically, or if they discover what the source is, then they may not even have to intervene with drugs... they may just suggest lifestyle changes. Bottom line... go see a doctor!! So you can come out and play with us at autocross SAFELY!!!

I have definitely had those memory spells kilgore is talking about. You're the first one to mention those. I had those before it happened in december and again sat. morning. Thats how I can tell I'm getting in danger of that happening, considering thats the only thing that has happened both times. What happens is I'll be doing something and forget for a second what i'm doing. Then it repeats about 15min. later. Almost like I zone out. Its the only thing that I know for sure has happened both times. I'm pretty sure I had some lack of nutrients, but I wish I knew which one. I'm going to the doctor tom. and try to get a sugar and stress tests. Just wanna make sure its not hypoglycemia or somethin. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP! Wish sooooooo bad, I coulda been there today. Can't wait to see the pics.

YAAAY!!!! kinda, Ok, went monday and got a sugar test and basic checkup. Today I got a echo cardiogram and went to find the results of the tests done on monday. Apparentely, according to them, I am hypoglycemic. So thank God its nothing huge! Thanks to everyone for their info, and I'll get the results from the echo in a few weeks. Now I have glucose tablets at work, in the car, and at home. Just figured I'd share my joy that its not a huge problem and something thats easily manageable. Hope everyone has a good time at the power tour and I will hopefully see yall next event!
