  • Solo Rule Book

I'd like to suggest that the Region should have a current rulebook on hand for any event we conduct. This issue came to light Sunday when there was a question about car classification, and no one seemed sure of the answer.

There are often car prep questions that come up, too, and it would be nice to be able to point to the actual wording in the rulebook. Also, there are occasional situations that we don't see often enough to know definitive answers, such as the rules involving youth programs.

We could either have the .pdf file on the T&S computer, print out a hard copy in advance, or we could have an official rulebook purchased from National. I'm guessing that, given the cost of paper and ink, it would be about as cheap to just buy the dead tree edition as it would be to print it ourselves.

Chuck I have a copy of the 2010 Rule book on a jump drive that is always in my possession.
I can dump it onto the T&S computer and have it available as needed.

Thanks for reminding me since I forgot to get the 2010 rulebook. It wasn't yet available at
    the start of our season.

I have Appendix A (car classes) and the full rule book on my phone for reference. I simply didn't use it in regard to the Mustang as I felt sure that it was FSP (confused with FS to ESP). That was just a bad choice on my part ...

I love it when the rules for the season you are running aren't yet available.

Matt, any idea on the specifics we talked about regarding interior bits for SM. Specifically taking the glove box out, and now that my rear decklid panel doesn't like to stay up due to severe ABS use at the stop box, taking the decklid out?

i hope i didn't make anyone mad for running in that class. i just done what i was told to do. after the event was over i was talking to some people and they was saying i might should run in the CP class. if i could get some help on what class the car should be in i will make sure i run in the correct class next time. just a little help to get on the right track would be great. i would love to attend all the events i can. everyone seems to be real cool and the events.

            thanks

Its not you at all Jason . It was our responsibility to be able to accurately class your car and we fell short of being equipped to do that .I agree that we need a printed version of the solo rulebook on hand at the event.I will get one .

Me, too. It's easy to forget that we get several months more to play than I did back in NY state. Because of that, we start our season before the rulebook is finalized.

If this is a notable issue, can it be considered that registration workers cannot always stop what they are doing to look up classifications for cars they are unfamiliar with?

I don't feel right turning people away as I want to help get them going rather than pass their questions off to someone else who may or may not be anywhere around at the moment. Is it acceptable to tell a driver without a class to talk to tech to find out what their class should be?

Again, I was confused about the FS v FSP in this case and take full responsibility for the incorrect classification. With a few people in line to register I made a quick, incorrect call. I will fix the results to move the Mustang to ESP where it belongs (according to what I was told was modified).

No one is mad Jason. When you're around autocross guys for a while you realize that EVERYTHING is about the rules and they are discussed often. In our region, we're usually pretty lax about this stuff. It happens. We're just having a friendly discussion.

But, if you could, would you mind listing the mods you have on the car so we can get the results fixed and have you in the correct class next event?

So you mean results fixed as in me being in NCS instead of NBS?

Thanks Ricky. According to the SCCA national Solo rules and our own supplemental
reg for the 2010 Solo season the entrant is responsible for the classing of their car.
Not T&S or TECH. The theory is the class participants would raise a stink if someone
was in the wrong class through a protest. If I bring an A-mod to run in H-Stock, Cholewa would have something to say about it.

                        That's the technical rulebook response.

I know that we can help new drivers with the classing. We have a notebook in the trailer that indicates the car classes just for that purpose as well as Matt having the SOLO rulebook on his superphone. Classing a car is a confusing thing to do especially when you're in the middle of getting everyone signed up for the event. Matt took a stab at it and missed. It was no big deal. Jason drove in a slower class than his car was prepared for and I hope he had a good time.

On a threadjack of my own, This really helps illustrate a point that's been nagging me for a while. Every event we have several folks hanging out in the trailer while T&S is registering drivers but when a question comes up the T&S person is stuck having to answer while other, capable people watch. When something looks like it needs doing...do it. These are our events. Help out. There is a list of things that need to be done at each event on the trailer door in case you don't know what needs to be done.

I would say no, my understanding has always been that it is up to the competitor to know what class they are in. That being said I don't expect someone that has never been to an event to know what all of the rules. If we will get a book and have it on hand I will help with classifications for the rest of this season.

                          EDIT: Yeah! What John said..

I can do that as well, yes. I only knew about the Mustang's incorrect classification. So the RX8 move to CS went through?
