  • Solo Safety Steward School at TnT

We are in the works for having Mike Cavanaugh available for teaching the Safety Steward school class at our TestNTune on Feb 27th. This is the opportunity to help the club as well as earn a license with SCCA.

I can't emphasize how important this specialty is to SOLO. Without Safety Stewards,
we cannot have our events. It's that simple.

Stay tuned.. more details to come.

Safety Steward Forms can be downloaded here:

That would be a good thing to obtain. Me thinks I'm in for this if it happens.

As soon as I hear back from Mike I'll have a few more details. I hope we end up with a few SS out of this.

The class will be at 8:00am, please be at the timing and scoring trailer no later than this time.

Have a copy of this form filled out when you get there.

It would be a big help if you read over the documentation here.

If you want to take the class and can't make it to ALSCCA's TnT, Mike will be having the class on Feb 13th at TVR's TNT held at Milton Frank Stadium.

The club really needs your help on this so if you take the class please follow though with the rest of the requirements. (shadowing two events, filling out the paper work and sending it in, etc...)

Will the class be over before the event starts, or should we plan on not driving?

I'm sure it will be over in time for everyone to get to drive but it's nice to know you would give up you runs to help the club.

When the Pirate taught the class in Huntsville, there was plenty of time to get in some runs on course and work a shift shagging cones.

I like to discuss general responsibilities and then walk the course to get people familiar with checking safety. Lots of discussions and information exchange between everyone. During the event we can have one or two people get an assist by working with the SSS for the heats. It's laid back. I can also provide a class for current safety stewards which is needed to keep up to date with SCCA policies. Josh and I are attending the SE Div Convention this weekend and there is a general meeting with Al Mitchell, the Division Solo Safety Steward.

I posted this in smack talk but lemme ask you - I ran across my safety steward paperwork from last year. I think all I need is some signatures on there. I did the SS class last season and then worked safety for 2 events. Mind you, I have not done anything-safety since that last event I did last year. Do I need to start over? I'd come to this class anyway for a refresher, but I mean do I have to get another 2 events this year before I can submit the paperwork?

I'd say since you didn't get the signatures when you worked as an Assistant Safety Steward that those would be considered as practice events. I don't know how that would work, hopefully Mike will see this thread and respond. I do know you have to work 2 events a year to maintain the license. It's one thing to get the license but then you have to use it too.
