  • Free SCCA membership!

Did you know that there is a way for people 24 years old and younger to get a FREE SCCA membership! It all has to do with the weekend membership forms some of you fill out at every event. Did you know that each one of them is worth a $15 discount towards a membership? You can use 2 of them together and get a $30 discount, then along with a referral from a current member you can receive another $15 discount. The reason this becomes a FREE membership to the SCCA is that people 24 years old and younger can sign up for a membership plan called FIRST GEAR it's only $45 a year! There are benefits to being a member of the SCCA such as a subscription to SPORTSCAR magazine, discounts on travel, Hotels, Car rental and your entry fee will be less. You also don't have to fill out weekend membership forms anymore! You also will eligible to accrue points for year end class championships!

Remember First Gear Membership = $45.00
    1st weekend membership - $15.00 discount
    2nd weekend membership - $15.00 discount
Current member referral - $15.00 discount

You owe Nothing and you're a member!

Just something to consider if you are 24 or younger.

Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection ...... again.

Look. I know I act about 17ish. Why not get the discount that I wasn't allowed to get when I started AutoCrossing back in 86? It seems a fair deal to me. I'll even tell the SCCA that you're 23ish. Do we have a deal?

So im going to ask at least one stupid question here,(at at least and uninformed one). The weekend membership consists of what exactly? I plan on attending the event on the 25th but will not be racing my car, can i still do the membership to get the discount? I will also have to attend the Nov 11th event so i can get this all done before i turn 25 Dec 27th

              thanks for the help.

Kevin, why aren't you driving? We have great novice instructors and a novice class to get you started. It's all about fun and hanging out with car people. Back to the point...to compete with the SCCA you must have an SCCA annual membership. It's an insurance thing. You can, if you want, buy the weekend membership ($5) for the 25th event and then again for the final event on Nov 15th ($5) and get a referral from someone... and yes it could be done before your Birthday. Keep in mind that the membership would be the regular membership when it comes time for renewal. ($80) but your first year would be pretty cheap. You would fill out the weekend membership form at the trailer, pay your $5 then keep your copy. We keep one and SCCA gets one. Do it again on the Nov. 15th and then CALL SCCA to redeem your membership. Then you are set for your first year. When renewal time comes along you'll get a notice that dues are to be paid and then it will be $80.00 since at that time you will be over 24 and no longer eligible for the first gear deal. Tell me again why aren't you driving?

Well the car has a boost leak(i believe, have not been able to run a full test yet) so anything over 4.5k on hard load it sputters. That and although the engine/tranny was rebuilt 20k ago, i dont think the suspension has been worked on, like, ever. So i defnitely need to clean that up a lot before running it hard. Most likely i will have to spend some time and effort replacing the bushings all around including the sub frame, which is all stuff i lack the skills of doing alone. Lastly it is also my DD at the moment so i cannot do something halfway and pick up later.

That i guess is the short of not running my car currently. Believe me, i would love to get out there and take a crack at it, but for fear of causing way more problems than necessary, i will have to wait, unfortunately, untill i can get everything squared away.

BTW thanks for the info on the membership.

EDIT: and i noticed somehow i thought Nov 11th was the next date, which is clearly a wednesday. Guess i was just looking forward to my next free day off. Should have read the 15th

Run what you brung my man. Car suspensions werent made to fall apart, as for the boost leak i can't really say, but the more you start making excuses now, the more you'll make them in the future.

A friend of mine told me he couldn't autocross his car because his seats weren't good enough. Sadly, he has yet to bring his car to an autocross. Because he has sedan seats, not racing seats. While we have people out here driving stock 80's economy cars with their original interiors.

Fix your boost leak and get driving.

I 2nd Cholewa. If you drive it everyday you can drive it at the BRC. It will be a learning curve day anyway. Run what ya brung and have the most fun in your life. Oh yea, make sure to catch rides with some of the crazies, this can be very fun too.

Ok well the boost leak will be getting looked at this weekend anyway, and if something else breaks i can just blame you guys right;-) But ya i would feel more comfortable for sure without the boost leak, because i trust the brakes if anything else goes wrong

I used to run my 89 volvo 240, that was entirely stock from the year 1989 except for a CD player and some new not 185/75 tires. It rolled around like a boat but it was fun as hell. If you're gonna help set up, you might as well run too. And if you're feeling broke, I'll cover your entry fee as your "sponsor".

Dont worry bout the fee, i can definitely do my part in that department. The boost leak will determine what i do that weekend. If the boost will hold, i do my share of scootin.
