Hey, sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask this, but I was interested in SCCA back in april and never got a chance to go to the events I was aware of. I noticed there's something on the 25th of Oct. and 15th of Nov. Would this be good events to come to, to check it out for the first time or what? Also, I plan on going to Import Face-off in Montgomery, on Nov. 5th (i think), if anyone's interested.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Sure, come on out on the 25th to the Birmingham Race Course on John Rogers Drive in Trussville. We open the doors at around 7am and usually first car is off before 10. You'll want to get there in time to get registered as well as walk the course. If you're a novice you won't wan tot miss the novice course walk with C and Sara. They provide great tips on how to look at the course while walking it as well as great info on where you need to be on the gas or brakes and turning or not. You can also ride with folks which will give you a good sense of what the course is like at speed. Typically, the courses are top of second gear speed and occasionally a bit of third. You will need a membership to SCCA but weekend memberships are available for $5. Don't forget to stop and sign the waiver as you enter the autox area. (it's for insurance purposes) We have fun and there are usually a wide variety of cars that run, even 500-hp Honda Minivans. We can find a class that will suit your car and your driving experience. Come on out and have a good time!

How exactly do we decide who wins this double event?
          Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

I've been wondering the same thing Erik. There is a little more info on the TAC/TVR site. Apparently it is decided by pax times of those who run both events, but I'd like to get more info too.

We register and they tick us as HSV or BHM, and we get our points, and we tally up the points for the HSV ticks and the BHM ticks and see who wins. There's probably some averaging and what not involved, but you get the idea.

I will sadly not be able to make it to HSV for this because the 24th is my day to attend the 8 hour defensive driving course in hoover... WOO!!! YEAH! excited. really.

It seems like they only counted the top 15 in PAX, was that correct?

I thought there were points awarded for top10 or 15 in PAX and also 10-15 fastest raw times. Also one point for each participant to their region. That way, you reward fastest times, fastest drivers (PAX) and club participation. Remember that a single driver can double points for a fast raw time AND PAX!

As a side note, the McCool clan is a TVR region family this year (due to their schedule with fewer events and a better surface). 4 drivers can rack up some team points!

I'm pretty sure Clay is right on the scoring.

I guess I better talk Zac into joining me on the trip north to partially offset the McCool defection

I guess the W/E of the 23-24th is quite popular .Kiss is in town ,a long time (known each other practically since diapers)friend of my sons is having a B'day party before moving to Panama City ,and Matt has a band competition in Chatanooga ,and I am scheduled to work that Saturday.

i can think of several unsavory ,filthy, adjectives to insert....but unfortunately none of them will change the fact that I dont have a shot in HADIES of being at MFS on Saturday.

I hope I can make it to BRC on Sunday.Im totally bummed but gotta do wut ya gotta do.

Just dropped by to see what's going on and found that AL Region is still active as all get out. Yes the scoring isn't going to change, John and I will total it up at the end on my calculator.

Milton Frank is a nice, CLEAN surface. I guess I could truck in some gravel to make you all feel more comfortable but I won't. Steve Conrad is the course designer with an unusual idea for that weekend. This should be interesting. I hope you all have worked out the logistics of the compact site.
