  • Rally X with a pick up?

I want to try this playing in the dirt thing, but I'm reluctant to use my Miata and my wifes Volvo isn't available so the default vehicle would be the stores F150, rwd, pick up. Any thoughts out there regarding this idea? Pro's and cons please.
    Thanks,
    Gramps

It can be done and it's a total blast in the dirt. My plans are to replace the BMW with a car capable of being a daily driver and a rally-crosser.

Trucks should be no problem. Miles Philips uses a Toyota, Speedsouth used a Nissan for Project Monkey Balls and David McFall used his F150 a the inaugural event. Snow tires or their equivalent are recommended.

Do you think I can talk Amy in to letting me use her F150?

Ok..thanks...probably won't do snow tires to start but sounds like too much fun not to give it a shot. What tire pressure to you suggest? Project Monkey Balls?

            Where?

Not at an ALSCCA event. Pickups are fine as long as they are stock ride height. You'll have a blast in the truck Gramps. I would put around 10-15 more psi in the tires than what the manufacturer calls for just like you would for an autocross.

SUV's are a different story. I just don't want to risk having one on its lid and having to fill out paperwork.

Gramps, glad you're coming out to give it a try. I swear part of me likes RallyX better than AutoX! Project Monkey Balls was the nickname of Robert Russom's Nissan truck. No,I don't know how it got that name.

As luck would have it, this Sunday we'll be in Boston for a graduation and some great It alina food in North End. If Murphy and his laws okay it, we'll do the next one. Youse guys and gals have fun.
