Reindeer Rallycross Sat. 12/13

It's time to sling some dirt for fun and for a good cause. Reindeer Rallycross is this Saturday 12/13 in Huntsville. Entry fee is $10 bucks and a toy. More info can be found here.

OK, I just got the latest issue of Sports Car and I had no idea certain person that pretty much all of us know just won a National title!!!!!! That is so cool . Congrats.

I've had the "show up with a car and helmet and have fun" experience with SOLO, but I'm wondering how different from that is RallyCross?

Would a street car on street tires be:

a) fun, given you understand the people on off-road tires will be faster
b) not fun, because you just can't run effectively on street tires or
c) not recommended because you'd probably break the car/wreck the tires?

My Focus probably has a couple of parts in common with the WRC Focus RS they run in Europe . . .

no off road tires... you can run snow tires, and that is about all you can run, if you are stock you can run 2 limited

running rally x is fun regardless. just remember you total all runs for your time not take your best run.

Fun, because on street tires you'll be running against other people on street tires. Everyone in your class will slide as much as you. Foci are great rally cars, NASA has the Spec Focus Class for stage rallies, and its one of the cheapest ways to get into the sport. Tons of parts available for that car.

With the rain we've had/are having, we'll all be doing some sliding Your street tired Focus will be faster than my rally tired RX-7. We'll both be having fun though. We plan on having at least 8 timed runs - all of which count.

I saw my "Sports Car" last night. Shelton definitely showed us the what for on the 2nd day. He was running times almost as fast as the fastest stock all wheel drive guys.

Blast! Can't go - have a church music function Saturday at 9AM. I will definitely have to show the Focus some dirt next season, though. Thanks to all of you for the info!

warning!!!! rallycrossing is very addictive and it is said that once you do it in the dirt your hooked, it is the "most fun you can have in a car with pants on".

It may be too late for me. In a prior vehicular epoch, I learned that pickup + mudgrips + dirt road + (optional) torrential rain = massive fun for me + massive fear for my passengers.

I bet it's much like autocross or any other situation where a gearhead like me can let his car really do what it can do without holding back. As the wise Mr. Ragan said to me on my first appearance at BRC, "Welcome to the addiction."

Just to clarify, rally tires are technically off road tires and are allowed. Off road tires are allowed but keep in mind, tires are that much more important in RallyCross. Cars are classed based on drivetrain layout (front wheel, rear wheel or all wheel drive) and what kind of knobby or lack there of rubber they have. There are stock, prepared and modified categories. Knobby tires bump you into the prepared classes regardless of performance mods. Modified is run what you brung and hope you brought enough.
