  • reading the rules and I could use some help.

running through my list of things that might keep me out of stock class.
86 Subaru XT DL FWD (only shiny when it's wet)

Fans. clutch fan is gone, been gone for years. do I have put one back?
electric fan is a new plastic one. much cheaper than sourcing an original and works better too.
currently on ebay coil-overs but stock springs are ready to go back in
front cat has been hollowed. but car has another behind it. (I can use the good front y-pipe from the stock-ish car but I would prefer not)
previous owner put on a post-facelift rear bumper. the set-up leaves me missing my reverse lights. is this an issue? if it's an issue can I just add some reverse lights, in a similar to stock location from another car? XT body parts are hen's teeth.
I don't have a radio. that bit of the dash is torn up. and fitting a radio is not something I care to do.
    needs muffler put back on.
I have a cosmetic "aero" part that I am partial too.

(doubt these really do much of anything, but they have a RALLY look to them and I would like to keep them.)

should I just run this thing as "prepared" even though I won't be able to do a front diff or any special tires this year? goal for this car if I run it will be to eventually upgrade to AWD and an engine swap. (that's at least next year or the year after's plans)

if I break this car, I won't cry about it for too long.

I have a (almost) bone stock 88 XT 4wd. but I don't really want to beat on it. since it's pretty.

forgot about the airstuts. this vehicle was equipped with air struts originally ans has been converted to coil spring struts due to cost and longevity.
this car is part time 4wd. which means center is locked 50/50 in 4wd (tends to cause torque bind which might make turning hard for a noob like me.)

if I break this car, I will cry... and my girlfriend will likely beat me up too...

    I guess that's my concerns.
    thanks for any input!

if I am being a "post-itute" please let me know so I can talk less.

Hmmmm lots of lil things really. I'm not the Rally chair but I would say for local events you would be fine in prepared if not stock class. The things that are done won't really help you in rally and we keep things simple and fun with our local events. Later on if you get hooked, which is highly likely and you want to go to a national level event you have to make sure you are in the right class. I would def put the stock springs back on, you don't want to be too low in Rallyx, that's when the carnage starts to happen. LOL

Cool car, never seen one before.

yes the stock springs are absolutely going back in.
championships haven't really even crossed my mind yet.
seat time is what I want, but I don't want to be up against mod class with a 96 HP subie.
even if it is only 2400 pounds.
I only skimmed the bit about the rally chair. I need to go back in and go over the rules again. I would like to run in stock, but prepared will be okay and honestly I guess, who cares? i really just want to race and have fun!

but yeah... can the lack of reverse lights keep me out of prepared?
will non stock replacements be okay? that's really the biggest worry.

If one was to be a stickler to the rules in stock it has to be completely stock, all interior complete as delivered from the factory. If your rear bumper is different than stock then that will actually put you in modified. But heres the catch, for local events we dont care. Just come on out and have a good time its only like 8-14 people who do this anyway. Its only if you plan to go to a divisional or national event that the stuff will matter. If you ever came up to Huntsville I'd put you in stock no problem.

Okay that's good to hear. By the time I go to a regional or national the car will be in M anyway.
