  • Need a Recommendation

The one and only time I ran RX was with the silver fox, an older VW. It had some issues at the start and RX didn't improve those issues. I've got roughly $1k to spend on a dedicated car for RX. I've found a VW Jetta and a 1988 BMW, both roughly the same price and condition.

I know that this would be comparing apples and oranges (FWD to RWD) but I'd appreciate thoughts.

I know the VW will be cheaper to work on. I'm comfortable driving FWD.

I know that the BMW will be more fun trying to keep the tail behind the head and there's just something about getting a BMW dirty.

The cars will most likely be dollied or flat towed to races so if that's a contributing factor.

I would've bought the Sentra from Edwin but I think it's gone....

Looking forward to getting back in the dirt.

Tow dolly that BMW and I suspect that you ought to remove the drive shaft. FWD has no such concern.

RWD certainly is a lot of fun. Does this one have a limited slip differential?

Will assume the BMW to be a 325..."e" ir "i"? Either way, very easy to work on and very cheap parts. Will be a very good choice. CB

It's a 1988 325is with 140k miles. I'll check with the seller to see about LSD, it was pretty common with the IS series. I'll assume if I can't dolly tow it I could flat tow it very carefully?

How many people are running SR besides the Danger Ranger? I see that the Natchamp is in a 325i

What size ATV tires fit on a 325 anyways?

An e30 325is was on my short list prior to getting the Subaru. It's my understanding that it should have a LSD.

As far as the Stock Rear wheel drive class goes, there is very little competition. There will be competition in the Modified Rear wheel drive class - especially locally.

BTW, with a few exceptions, Stock pretty much means that the car is exactly like it was delivered from the factory.

ATV tires were deemed "not within the spirit" of RallyCross by the SCCA RallyCross Board for the 2012 rules.

Buy the 325is and trade me for my SA Audi V8 Quattro.

I love Audis.... had a 5000 back in the day until my younger brother let it run out of gas a few times while I was in Desert Storm..... not really happy with him about that.

I guess the BMW "should" handle being driven to and from events.

That BMW also makes a very good road race car. CB

Will glad that you've come to your sense's, and going to come out have some fun getting dirty, speaking for FWD, its easier to drive and more available FWD's to compete against.

Casey... hmmm post some pics of your Audi and I may go buy the BMW just to trade ya.

Chuck, I'd love to road race but the money to get licensed plus the building of a race car....

Dirt, yeah, the recession gave me plenty of time to race but umm no moneys to race Actually I have nothing but time now, VA won't let me work so I guess I'm "retired" and looking for something to keep me busy.

I left a message at Edwin's shop regarding that Sentra he had for sale.

LOL The current owner is an SSCA guy. Says the main issue is some rust in the floorboards.

There's a Ford Escort nearby that looks pretty good. Waiting to hear from Edwin before I go check it out.

It's also very hard to find one that's not been an extra in Too Fast or Furious...

Did y'all ever run the stage rally?

There's an 800? Dollar 85 subaru gl sedan on atlanta craigslist.
I'll come back later with a link. Don't know if its a puller or a pushmepullyou...
                            It IS a manual though.

Valve train noise is lifters. Mine do it occasionally.
Oil pump reseal will usually cure it.
If I had extra $ I would buy it.
