A friend of mine got one of those for a "hand-me-down" first car from his Mom. He hated the car and decided he would beat it to death and then his folks would by him a good car. Sounded like a brilliant plan that we were sure would work like a charm. He jumped curbs, ran it out of oil, redline shifts, burnouts from every light.
28 years later he still uses the car for snow days in the upper peninsula of Michigan. When we last spoke I asked about the car and he said
"... it won't die."
He's keeping it to give to one of his daughters for a first car.John W8

Be careful jamming through snowbanks with that thing, though. Snow can be forced between the timing belt and the bottom pulley, resulting in decreased efficiency, i.e., it's dead right there. The same thing happened to my son's Pinto that same winter.Chuck Schultz

Don't you understand how they're too stiff for tarmac, much less dirt/gravel/mud? Hell, even spun up they're still barely stock ride height and that still doesn't negate the fact that they're WAY too stiff.Originally posted by Cholewa View PostDon't you have coilovers on the 240? Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

I had one as a second car for a long long time. John's story regarding the car NOT being killed is dead on. I beat the snot out of mine. Bent the steering column after a particularly long flight involving some seriously steep railroad tracks. Drove it for another year after that incident. Momentum and dirt are so much fun with a Chevette. DO IT!
