  • Snow tires

I'll be using my mr2 for rallyx. I am assuming it will go in the stock clas as it hasnt been modified. Do I need to fit snow tires on front and rear or just the rear?

Is there a particular brand I should go for? Wheres to best place to buy them?

Great car to rallycross & competetive also....I recommend snow tires on all 4. Winterforce brand. Tire Rack sells them.

I agree. Having winters on only one axle would result in extreme oversteer/understeer, depending on their placement.

you could run TVR's rallycross, are ours for that matter on street tires! that is if you couldn't get snow tires by then, it would not do quiet as well as with snow tires, but you could get started, and see how everything works! come on out!

Thanks for the info guys. Hey Caj, i'm going to do my best to attend one of the events, i'd like to go to crow mountain. I'm not sure if my mr2 will be ready for end October, i have a fair number of things to do to it. My main concern is a transmission rebuilt, it shifts smoothly driving normally but grinds upon aggressive shifting.

I'm looking at getting these tires, are they suitable driving tires all year round. I should be getting some new wheels and tires when the spring comes but the current set I have will be used for rally cross and road driving.

Do I need to get the studded option, works out $15 per tire.

What tires? If you are trying to post a pic, it didn't come thru.

From what I gather, studs don't last very long on dirt. I've never seen any used around here.

Firestone winterforce without studs. Are they ok for everyday driving and how long do they last?

I know they're excellent for rallycross. You'll probably have to find a thread up north somewhere to get good info on everyday street driving. You could ask the folks at Tirerack.com also.

Normally I run most courses in 2nd gear in it's entirety. Sometimes we make a mistake and the course winds up tighter than we think. 3rd gear courses are pretty infrequent.

A fair priced set of snow tires is all you need. Not studded or studded option. Stock tire size preferable. Ive ran different size snow & rally tires & nothing as worked better than my 155/70R13 Bridgestone Blizzak. By far the best tire set-up for my car & driving style. Also snow tires work great in this region.

Winterforce's will work....I have a set of used 14's still look brand new i can part with.

Do not plan on driving on them with a daily driver. They make pretty awful road noise, but also do not do so well building up that kind of heat. Over 60 mph you can feel the blocks squirming around a ton. Their road use is really just for winter roads and lower speeds.

Driving on them to the events etc. is fine, but you would probably hate using them every day.

Alabama heat in the summer months would probably destroy snow tires. I've seen a few different driving websites and forums recommend that winter tires be installed when your commutes are 40 degrees and under, to prevent them wearing rapidly. By that recommendation, you could probably only use them for one or two weeks a year in Alabama. Your most cost effective bet would be getting a set of wheels from a junk yard or such.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?
