  • We had a good or we had a bad day,not too sur

First of all I know I left an e out of the word sure in my title.I could not go back and change it.

A little back ground just for those that do not know.
We work for Honda in Lincoln. We have a company race team.We ran the One lap of America since 2006 and had a very good budget. We even got paid to go to the event's.
Well as everyone knows the economy went south and so did our money for the race team.We started doing autocross because it took very little money and was good to teach car control. Last Summer we started looking at rallycross for both of the same reasons. We had a Pilot just sitting so we built it with pretty much what we had and a little of our own money. Our team still had no budget to work with, which is fine we were just glad to have a job and thrilled that they let us still drive the cars.
We finished the Pilot over the winter and have been doing rallycross events with it. Also they gave us 2 GREAT fields at the plant to ptactice and test. All of the management had been in our vans and knew what they could do but none had ever been in the Pilot. With it being 100% stock parts I am sure they expected it to be pretty much like a stock Pilot. A week or so ago we got a small amount of money to buy some safety things like a cage, seats etc. for the Pilot and the Accord. They also gave us 3 stock 4wd Pilots to test with or use for parts, one had only 27 miles on it .That is a good start and we are glad to have some money back. Our plant manager went out to our track in a stock Pilot on his own and had a good time. Dan ( who is the Race team manager) sent me an E-mail today and said he ,the president and vice president wanted to go for a ride after work today.
The ride went great. It was hot and dusty but they had a good time and I am sure were very surprised at how quick the Pilot was for being pretty stock. We let them drive it some and that went over pretty good also.
This could be good and it could be bad, here is how. Good because with little to no money we built a pretty fun and quick rallycross vehicle, not WRX or STI or even black pearl quick but for a SUV with stock parts it does pretty good. Bad because of the same reason. Now they know how quick it can be .I bet they are glad we will be putting a cage in it now. Also we plan to get some real race seats and a couple hans device's also just to be safe.

It was a good day and we are very glad we work for a company like Honda that takes care of us when times are good and when times are bad .

It's great to see a manufacturer get in to grass roots racing... and yes I will by another Honda, we were looking at them tonight. I don't know how the "brass" looks at it but to some of us "Race on Sunday, drive on Monday" does mean something.

    But I race Mazdas...

Sigh.... You know how jealous I am. The plans for the Hyundai team are going to be reliant on the factory decision makers. Most are on board but Hyundai Motor America isn't interested so it'll be purely factory and team member driven.

Well if nothing else my fall back plan is for them to allow the use of fields and parking lot for scheduled rallyx and autox driving.

Glad to hear everything went well with the management ridealong.

Please do not take me wrong . I would never want anyone to be jelous at all and I see no reason anyone would be.I just felt like it was a good time to really appreciate everything they have done for us and continue to do during good and bad time. Not only for the race team stuff but they give me a good job that allows me to take care of my wife and 2 little boys. I just feel we all really need to appreciate the good things in our life because it could change at anytime.

By the way, our team is and always has been factory and team driven, that is a good thing.

I'm not being hateful when I say I'm jealous.... just messing with ya We're all pretty lucky to be in the positions we are.

Now don't tell the wife but when I get my truck sold I found another VW Fox, it's prettier than mine so I'll have one to Rallyx and another to be the daily driver

              I will Wally.
I just wanted everyone to know how good of a company Honda is. I always thought a lot of them before I worked there but now after seeing how they care about the associates and the community I am proud to wear Honda on my shirt everyday.

I am glad they let us use their cars and I know we normally bring a knife to a gun fight but we run the product we build. It is just a good thing we build cars and not riding lawn mowers, that would be a real uphill battle.

We got some feed back from our little ride yesterday.Seems all is good, well really great. We were a little concerned the mangement would get scared that what we are doing is too dangerous and they would put a stop to it.They had a great time and want to take the Pilot out some on their own to drive on our track. They even want to have an associate rallycross at the plant. That is why they gave us the 3 other stock 4wd pilots. When we have it ( company rallycross)we will have to invite some of you guys out to help and then you can do some driving also. It seems a lot of the management are from up north and Canada a have in the past raced stage Rally before. That is good for us ,and I hope the ALSCCA.

Nice read Paul. Good to hear that more people from HMA are coming on board and liking what's going on.

We took the AR people and the lawyers out last week and let them drive. All went well. I can't help but think at some point someone is going to say "ya know this may not be such a good idea", but so far everyone loves it.
