But what is best for width? Wider or thinner if you have a choice? Surface condition fluctuates from loose dirt to light mud depending on recent weather.

I've had good luck with a slightly narrower rally tire. You lose high speed stability but gain grip on turn in. The narrower tire acts like a sawblade digging into the dirt. As you power out of the corner, you start to lose grip and that's when the rear end drifts out and creates the nice rooster tail much like in the pic of my wrx I posted.

I agree with Shea, those would work. Also for that price you can get a set of medium compound rally tires. If under the grass is anything like the dirt on the course Sean cut out then I think rally tire would be the choice. I'm taking both my sets, medium rally & snow tires. Like you said Robert, if this turns out to be the preferred rally site then i want to know my best tire set up of for it. If it rains then who knows what would be best,...maybe those BF Goodrich.

Edwin, I'm going out Sat. too. If you're still coming out Sat....and your up for it, I'll help you change tires and we can use a stop watch on Sean's existing course, so you don't have an unfair advantage for Sunday's track, to see whats faster.

Yeah, Ron & I will be setting up lots on Sat. so we wont have tons to do on Sunday for the event. I believe Charles wont be there till Sunday morning. I'll just ride up there with my knobbies on. Hope this week flys-by....I'm so antsy for Sunday.

That's like 25.5" tall. A typical Miata tire in a 195/50-15 is 22.7" tall. Just for reference

The LTD and similar cars on that platform runs tires in the 25-26" range. Would these do better than snows? The sidewall should be much stiffer, but that's a large price difference. I'll probably need 15's to clear the brakes I want anyway...

Sidewall stiffness doesn't play as much of a role as it does for autocross. The only gains for a stiff sidewall in rallycross is it is less likely to debead when sliding sideways. The gains for a stiff sidewall will be small during cornering and turn in. Of course, gains will be greater when the ground is very dry and very hard. If it's wet, it doesn't matter much at all.

Take this into account. When I ran all seasons when I first started rallycrossing, I ran 45lbs of air in the tires to keep the tire from debeading. On rally tires, I run anywhere from 26lbs to 29 lbs because the sidewall is so much stiffer.

So if someone were dumb enough to run high performance summer tires in a rally, tires that already have pretty stiff sidewalls, they should probably air up to 40lbs anyway? better safe than sorry like?

Correct...you just want to be on the safe side. During the T&T you might be able to play with air pressure and see what feels better....
