first off, can you run a small truck such as 2 wd Ford Ranger , Chevy S10 ect.

and second , will you be black flagged if your car/truck (as the lady told me "it really ,really smokes a lot") as long as your not dropping fluids , in other words a real P.O.S. as long as it has good brakes , tires and no leaks! and lots of smoke?

    Thanks for any input! Byron

Boy I hope the answer to this question is yes. We need someone to battle with and not get beat by 10-20 seconds per run. As far as dropping fluids, on dirt who can tell???????

      The Ranger/S10 will be fine.
      Smoke/dust - what's the difference?
Fluid leakage - so long it's not pouring out creating an environmental hazard.

POS vehicles make great rallyx vehicles before they expire and go to the great big scrap yard in the sky.

Thanks for your replys, got to checking and the truck had 70 hp in it's prime (2.0 L ) and one barrel carb @ 3000 + pounds?
I think it would be lucky to pull it's own weight much less mine too!
What could you expect for $350. Thanks again!

After investing another $500 in the $200 LTD, I think it has a head gasket leak. So, you won't be the only one making some smoke.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

If the big cheese says its ok, then thats cool with me? I agree with Charles about the environmental hazards, also we don't want any type of fluids leaking that might cause a fire. Remember safety is our biggest concern. Please anyone thats not sure about there vehicles ability call me @ the shop. We can get it on the lift & give the vehicle a once over and even determine if its a serious issue. Oil leak can some times be a leaking valve cover gasket or PCV thats plugged up. We can even test for blown head gasket. Please call me @205-244-1100. I want everyone to have peace of mind when bring there vehicles out to the events. Again, please don't hesitate to call....Edwin

If we don't get the VW finished in time for the Dixie event in Valdosta (28 Feb), then it'll be . . . the return of the "DangerRanger"

Not seen on the RallyX circuit since around 2003, the "DangerRanger" now has a lot more daily driver miles on it, but it still likes to play in the dirt.

the truck is out! i realy don't need anouther project as big as the truck would have been.
i have a track car that i have spent a good bit of time on trying to make neat and "clean " not fast!( bmw 320) i just don't know if i'm ready to run it in the dirt just yet , it sure looks like fun tough !!!

(edtype1) does your 2002 bottom out very much during rally cross?

oh, thanks for the offer to check over everything!

BMWe21, nope Ive never bottomed out & Ive ran pretty much allover the place. All different terrains & I can say I've never had any problems. My car is 35 years old & its still ticking. My car is stock except for Blistein shocks(worn out), a few front suspension parts & a LSD from a 320is. I am going to upgrade this year with shocks & springs & 38mm Weber carb. Is your 320i lowered? I have a parts 320is @ the shop & its got a stock ride height suspension. Maybe you can run your 320i?...

My 320 has been lowered 1 1/2" + ,with bilstein sport shocks, bavarian auto springs, limited slip diff..
I'm thinking I may can use rubber spring spacers to raise it back up to normal ride height, this would make the change from dirt back to pavement easy (if it works?)
I have a 1.8L converted to carburator 38/38 Weber, looking at the classes it looks like my car may fit in PR class ,with the exception of the interior. I have removed the back seat, carpet, headliner in order to install a roll bar , the bar probably weights more than the parts that were removed.
I ordered a set of WINTER HANDLER 175/80/13 tires today so I guess I am now "an obligated rallycrosser "!

PR sounds close enough. Personally I think the prepared rules need to be opened up a bit anyway.

I'm not familiar with Winter Handlers. Where did you find them?

                            ebay motors (searched) 13" tires
from the sound of most people using older cars ,ratted out interiors are probably common, and too expensive to replace!

Byron, just remember to save all your quarters, so you can clean up the car (and the tow rig, and the trailer) at one of those "do it yourself" car washes when you're done.

                              I'm bettin' you'll have a blast.

I'm tempted to ask if you'd be willing to negotiate with a potential co-driver, but I'm still up in the air about my schedule, other than an emphasis on track days, with some Solo thrown in to keep up the reflexes.
