  • VW GOLF Stage Rallycar build

This past weekend I volunteered @ the 2010 Sandblast rally in Chraw, SC. It was awesome. Weather made it a true balls out rally for the competitors. This rally is famous for its long fast sandy roads. Some parts of the Special Stages are brutal for bikes & cars. Now with all the rain S.caroline got it was a slippery mess for everyone, But the bikes and cars charged through flat out in some stages. There was 48 bikes & 20 cars. Jonas Street, American rider that came in 7th overall in bike @ the 2010 Dakar Rally was there blazing the stages...It was a great battle between him & Bill Conger. Bill won just by 8 seconds. In the car class Subaru had 1st & 3rd podium with Mitsubishi claiming 2nd. We did see competition from Ford, VW, Mazda, Eagle, Audi & BMW. It was also great because after the sweeper car would pass I would have to drive the whole stage with my Mazdaspeed 6 to work the next SS. It wasn't a Suby or an Evo, but she blazed through like she was...lol. It was great fun.

So with the said, Here is some info & pics of the VW rallycar build Element Garage has been working on a few months. Its a 1990 VW Golf. Full rally-spec cage w/ beefed up suspension points. Big-Boy 8v with plenty of torque. We have a beefed up tranny & using a Kaaz LSD. We have plumbed all the brake line & are working on the lexan windows. Next week will start on the installation of the Haltech engine management system & lighting harness. Will be posting pictures & info as we go...I'll post pic of Sand Blast when i get to the shop tomorrow....Peace Ed...

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?
