JL, go back and look at this post from the start. To say it's modified would be an understatement. It is mostly stock parts, but it's the way that this thing has been put together that will make it a beast. It's gonna be a great year!

I understand that Hondamaint's Pilot is highly modified. My comment was specific to bmwe21's 2003 Pilot with clutches on all 4 axles. The standard Pilot comes with an open front differential and electronic clutches on each rear axle. I was questioning the mod to 4 clutches.

My pilot was bought new by my wife, it was made in Canada, the only input I had was getting her to get the towing package," I'm getting old so I'm not going to bet my life on what I'm going to say" but I thought at the dealer I saw a drive train layout that showed one on each wheel, if you do a search on 2003 honda pilot , you can find a 2002 artical on Honda's web sight that states that the vtm on the 2003 pilot ( all were 4 wd) transfers traction to all 4 wheels, and I have never been able to spin the front wheels as described in an earlyer post not even in the snow wet roads of yesterday ( with the VTM off and car in regular drive OD) now keep in mind that mine only has 240 hp , mine also ingauges on its own when it senses a condition that might warrant it,heavy excelaration even on dry roads, I'm not much on computers so when my "IT" person gets home I'll get her to post a link to the artical that I"m talking about. Keep in mind that it does say something about using the anti lock brake system so it might in someway lock one of the front tires to send power to the other???

I guess what I'm wondering is if there is a difference in the first Pilots and the ones being produced in Al.

Also let me say that without a dought the guys @ Honda know more than I could ever hope to know about these cars! And in no way that this post should be taken as me being mad or offended. If everything goes good I will use this Pilot to tow my car "BMW" to the solo T&T also the RallyX T&T. I would really like to know if there is a difference or I'm just confused? Thanks Byron

There have been no real changes to the VTM system operation until the introduction of SH-AWD in the Acura Line. You'll find that Honda talks in terms of torque distribution. Torque is normally directed to the front wheels (via an open differential so you can turn). Under a number of conditions, VTM-4 engages the rear clutches (individually if necessary) - this is refered to as sending a percentage of the torque to the rear. Here are a couple of links that describe the system: Link 1 & Link 2. I wasn't trying to stir anything up either, I was just asking if you modified your Pilot to have 4 clutches. I have a 2005 Pilot that has seen many Massachusetts snow storms and never been stuck, so the system works. I wouldn't take it rock crawling though....

Hey JL SS one unpleasant thing about her buying that car was that there was a new S2000 on the showroom floor that I was lusting over, it was within $200 to $300 of what the Pilot was , makes you reconsider kids!

Nah,kids just give you a reason to buy a Pilot or an Odyssey. The new (2011)Odyssey is going to be cool.

Just found that. It's LIVE and it's AWESOME! There is a factory Holden HSV Estate that is tearing it up. Makes me think if a certain Honda that's getting a log book soon! Very very cool to watch.

We started back working on getting the Pilot ready. less than 2 weeks and we have only driven it 1 time. Oh well we will do the best we can with the time we have. We got our tag and insurance papers today for it so tomorrow it will leave the plant for the first time EVER. We will drive it a few days just to shake it down and this week end we will put a new ( more open) exhaust on it.

Paint the exhaust with that special black that you have and see if it not only lowers the stance but the exhaust note as well.

We did install the Pilot accessory fender flares today. They are black and do make it look a little lower and wider,not much (3/4-1in or so) but a little.

Here is the alignment we used. After testing some today we may have to go back and tune out a little of the oversteer, maybe just a little.


Chris is going to try and bring it to the autocross TT this week end. The car is really not ready yet but we need to put time on it to see what falls off.
