We got to drive the car last night, it was around 3:30 am and raining. We took it pretty easy because we pretty much rebuilt the entire car and just checked things out. First inpression is it is very loud inside because it is just a shell ,but that is ok and just makes it like the rest of our cars.
We took it out to our test track and drove in 2wd and then in 4wd for a while. Everything looked and sounded as expected. With both rear wheels locked you do notice the inside rear tire on pavement is not too happy in a steering wheel locked turn but any other time you could not tell if you were in 2 or 4wd , unless you do a standing start. In the rain on pavement we first did fwd starts, lots of wheel spin. Then we engaged the drive and did 4wd starts, wow no wheel spin at all. It could use a higher stall speed torque converter so it would be more in the power curve during launch but still what power there is was getting to the pavement even while it was raining.
Next we moved to a gravel lot we have. We were concerned that the setup would cause understeer. We did some tight and not so tight turns in the gravel and what we found was the rear would brake traction a little and the front would tuck the nose in at the same time and help pull the car through the corner with just a slight amount of oversteer. At this time with VERY limited testing I must say the turn in kinda surprised me a little and was good. We still have ABS also. We will do somemore testing over the next few weeks and try a few different setups.

              Just WOW....

I'm really impressed by the car and just as impressed by the magic black paint. That stuff is amazing!

That thing looks MEAN. Very unlike the vans. Congrats on the successful road test! I know how disappointing or exciting that can feel.

Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

We will take the next 2 weeks or so and work on the red Odyssey getting it ready to get an inspection to get a log book for the TT school/event. If we get a chance we may do a little testing but the main focus will be the red car for the next 2 weeks. If we get it ready sooner we can get back on the Pilot. Looking forward to getting some time it the Pilot and may go ahead and get a tag for it just to drive it home a few days to put miles on it. The car at the present time only has 250hp but now we will be able to put ALL of it's power down which should help the car not be too much of a pig.

250hp? That is more than the two fastest CSP cars combined and your complaing?

Yeah but it weighs as much as 2 of them also, just kidding. 250hp is fine but we just want to set the bar low and not expect too much out of the car just incase it is a pig. Hopes are are high but we expect it to start out slow and work from there, that way we will not be disappointed.

Well you guys have done a great job..Remember the build is the 1st step, now comes the testing & tuning setup part of the build...Im sure you'll have your tweaks to make everything come together...Im alittle over half way with a GTI rallycar build & Im sure its going to be a long T&T process...Either way you guys have done a great job.

That is exactly what I was trying to say. Edwin, we need to meet somtime and look at each others car, we would LOVE to see the GTI.

We had a little time today so we started bending tubing for the cage for the Pilot. We got the main hoop bent, at least that is a start.

I sunk it almost to the frame the other day in Mississippi while pulling a trailer that weighed probably 1800 lbs, rocked it back and forth , came right out , not the first time I have had it in the mud, these things will really go, especially to be as nice as most cars on the road!
Did you modify your Pilot? Cause a factory 4wd Pilot comes with an open front differential and electronic clutches that engage the Rear wheels.

JL, go back and look at this post from the start. To say it's modified would be an understatement. It is mostly stock parts, but it's the way that this thing has been put together that will make it a beast. It's gonna be a great year!
