  • ALSCCA rocks at Barber

Quick report on this weekend's Porsche BMW owners Club (PBOC) event at Barbers.

There was a pretty low turnout, but that meant for some wonderful track time. Very little traffic and lots of driving.

    There were a number of ALSCCA people out there;

Sean Yoder came out for a visit on saturday. He also got quote of the weekend, "It's a fwont weel dwive cawr ..." Glad to see him out doing motorsports business.

Chuck Shultz worked corners for the weekend a provided some sage advice about yellow flags for me on sunday morning.

Michael Roach ... he's been out to a couple of autocross events in a bright orange Porsche. He also drives a very interesting MINI cooper - full race cage and lots of great modifications.

Karin "Ginger" McKinnell -- solo rookie of the year co-drove with me.

    Myself.

Notably, Ricky Ragan the RE for the region was an instructor (thankfully he was my instructor). It was a real treat to have someone I knew as my instructor for this event. He was a great teacher and I really appreciate all of his input. He even got me to do a 1:59 on street tires in an underpowered front wheel drive car...

Sorry if I missed anyone -- Ricky??? help me out --- but, great to see these folks out at the track. Would love to have more people come out to even just check it out....

    ALSCCA rocks.

Sorry I couldn't chat longer - didn't want to miss the short bus and have to walk over to station 10.

Chuck Baader, Bobby Bitterman, Fred Turner, Robert Russom, the Leonards, Joe Sharrow and maybe Rob Leopard were driving around (and probably instructing) at one time or another.

Bobby had a rough day, getting damage to two cars, I think.

Cool enduro on Saturday, and two sprint races on Sunday.

The DE groups seemed pretty rapid, with a few minor exceptions to keep the blue flags busy.

My day Saturday was a bit rocky with the nasty wet conditions early on and my novice student who never broke 60MPH but felt the need to brake overly at each and every opportunity to do so .I thought she was stopping to let me out a couple times .This wouldnt have been so bad had it not been for the fact she was driving a lotus exige, but Jamie "late braker "McKinnell filled in the gaps .My car survived despite my resolve to see if I could launch a rod through the hood It took all of my abuse and Im ready to go to TGPR in April.

Don't let Jamie fool you ...he just wanted someone to impress LOL.I was!!Additionally as an instructor it is a huge plus to be riding along with someone who knows what they are doing ,and how to react to situations without thinking .

I hated to see Bobby bend the Z -car.That hurt to see.David Leonard won his class and was 3rd overall in both races Sunday in the Silver Mustang Cobra R clone. He laid a sound thrashing on the whole field except for 2 very fast radicals who lapped the entire field if I recall.David cut several 1:39 sec laps .Pretty danged fast for an old guy in a mustang <wink>

For those that can't read between the lines ... this quote would read, "Additionally as an instructor it is a huge plus to be riding along with someone who knows what they are doing ,and how to react to situations without thinking ---

So, thank you Jamie for not overcorrecting and putting us in the wall after you f'd up 11 and dropped two wheels off after 12"

Not enough appreciation goes out to the instructors ... thanks a lot ricky. Glad you understood my situation and took me on as a second student for saturday ... that was above and beyond the call.

I assume you're talking about going wide over the tunnel (corner station 13.) That can be a bad place to go off.

Here's somebody who was lucky, there - http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...5&id=632863869 (Don't know if you can see it without signing in, though.)

It is a bad place to go off. I'm glad I don't have bent metal to deal with ...

RR was cool as a cucumber though ...

"Ummm, yep, I'm going to go off ...."

To which Ricky replies, "Just keep it straight, relax ...."

We dropped two wheels and thankfully only got a little bit squirrely coming back onto the racing surface.

I felt very poorly about our bit of drama as it was not my intention to stress out the instructor.

            Still What a GREAT day!!!

I think I've had two-four wheel off in all the abnormal places. I mean how many cars have been 4-off at the bottom of the hill at 3/4 and coming onto the front straight. I'm sure I'm not the first one to use the gravel trap outside 1 or they wouldn't have extended it.

That wasn't this weekend, by the way. My car is still in pieces.

Enough that they moved the wall back at the top of the hill, driver's left.

Marco Andretti went around that one when he was still in Skippy competition. Seems like somebody took Steve P. through there and within an inch of the ARMCO in a yellow 'vette a few years ago, too. . .

Didn't know they moved that wall. Bikes go off there fairly often don't they?

Yes, but most that go off onto the front straight don't make it back to T1 under their own power.
