as a corner worker at pdx events i would like to see numbers on pdx cars for identification....many or most other corner workers are able to identify cars by their make/model.....sometimes i cant [yet]......it is much easier to identify if necessary a car as color/number.....im not suggesting a new rule but it could be suggested to drivers .... it would be easy enough to add a number.........i hope im not out of line here...

Good suggestion Ted. Most organizations do require numbers on PDX or DE cars. Our PDXs are the only ones I personally have seen that do not have car numbers.

That's actually not a bad idea at all, and would be very easy/reasonable to accommodate. I think we should do it!

Good idea! How shall it be done?

I have been to many HPDE in the past where a 6" vinyl number was provided and put on the windshield center. Hard to do a white number for the sides since it does not work on all cars.

Require each PDX car to have a 6-8" number on each side of the car?

        Other suggestions?

Yep. It is a good idea. It's actually already in place, but was not enforced during our last PDX due to the morning rush and lack of similar cars.

The entry form we used had a spot for participants to select and provide their own numbers since many have participated in solo and already have numbers made. Obviously, many of them did not use their numbers.

Would you guys suggest we just assign numbers in the future and provide windshield and side window vinyls like the other clubs?

Do most magnetic numbers stay on at 100 mph? When I was last there, I noticed a few bits of what I'd supposed were 'lost' numbers... At the time, I'd assumed they had blown off the cars.

I lost one magnetic digit at TGPR, last year. See Rod's video for proof. . .

I'll be using repositionable shelf paper for numbers, from now on, for track events.

I used magnetic numbers (8") & Class letters (4") on my CSP Miata for many years running TT at the highest speeds a Miata can get to. Never lost one. That said, there are 2 different styles for the magnetics. The thicker version has better magnetic capabilities whereas the lesser grade do not stay on as well. The magnetic material I always bought for TAC/TVR was the of the stronger variety.

I do need to add in the supps that PDX numbers are required. Drivers can supply their own or we can provide numbers.

I like being able to pick my number if possible because I'm used to watching for it. My first session at the PBOC event at Barber, my instructor didn't get the passenger door quite closed all the way. Somehow the corner workers noticed and black flagged me. The conversation in the car was something like "Are you number ___?" "I don't know, was he pointing at me?" We decided he probably was and came in.

Oh, and the magnetic numbers I've been using have stayed on fine at TGPR and Barber. I think I got them from edecals.com.

Good magnetic numbers stay on just fine. You run into trouble if you use the cheapo magnetic material. In Chuck's case I think it was just the magnet had weakened over time.

Regarding picking your own numbers, you can do that each time you register on motorsportsreg.

I think older numbers, or numbers that have been painted for contrast (black on black wasn't working) tend to curl at the edges, a bit, and lose flexibility, both of which probably contributed to my loss.

Numbers for PDX/E is a good idea and should be required. Whether it be corner workers (must always do things to make their job easier), other safety concerns (added ID) or even just simply part of "prepping" your car for the race track (slapping on a number transforms the car and, more importantly, the driver)

I've used the thicker mag sheet for my numbers and haven't lost one yet (Miata) ... Clean where you apply and smooth any bumps

i was a corner worker at tgp pdx a few weeks ago..i saw very few if any numbers on pdx cars....it seems if people are serious about racing they can afford a number.....i race [autox] on social security income and i can put magnetic/vinyl numbers on my car.....i drive quite a way to flag these events and then cant identify some of the cars.....it aint right.....
