  • AL PCA DE at Barber 3/7-8 Registration Open

Alabama PCA says they welcome all cars that'll pass tech, no preference in registration for Porsche owners or PCA members - it's open to all at the same time. I got an email a couple of days ago and was reminded that the registration opened today. Details at al.pca.org, registration via clubregistration.net. I'm in. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

I hate those dadgummed coupons! I can't find any of mine since I packed up the house to turn it into a "for sale nobody really lives here" show place. 90% of our stuff is packed in boxes in the garage and I hope hope hope I can figure out which "very good spot" I chose to secure these. They may be so secure they will never see the light of day!

Found 'em! Yay! Using my first ones this December at Road Atlanta. Or so goes the plan.

I couldn't get the pca site to work. I checked out registration, and I din't see a 'one day option' (I'm only available Sunday), so I'll probably have to pass...I should probably test out my new car on the autoX before I take it to barber anyways

                  For a one-day option, see this thread - http://www.alscca.org/community/show...=5065#post5065

Registration for the PCA DE this weekend is at www.clubregistration.net I believe. There is an email link there for their DE chair whom you could ask about a 1-day option.

This club's one-day DE on May 9th is another good option for a 1-day as Chuck noted.

And of course we'd be happy to see you out at BRC - they're running this Sunday, and the rest of the schedule is posted on the alscca.org front & Solo pages. Come on out!

The event was very well-run, all sessions seemed to start right on time. In all the driver meetings, there was an extremely strong emphasis on safety, and everything that goes along with that (passing rules, appropriate speed for conditions, following distance, etc.). There was a big honkin stock car (NASCAR style) in the mix, along with many other types of cars - but they addressed the super fast car in the driver meetings by making us aware he was there, and by cautioning him to be super aware of his surroundings. He was in one of the advanced groups, so I didn't have to worry about him driving up my tail pipe

I can't speak for all instructors, but I had an awesome instructor, a Boxster driver and retired racer. His communication style was just right for me - low key, extremely focused and direct, but also light-hearted and focused on having fun. All the instructors had chatterboxes - I consider this a must! But it's also good to have hand signals worked out before getting on track, because like all gizmos, chatterboxes can quit working mid-session (didn't happen to us).

Saturday the novice group had 3 drive sessions, Sunday we had four - and the final one (last session of the weekend) was sparse. They all seemed to end too soon for me! I forget the time - 20-30 minutes per session.

I really appreciated the way they brought the novice group along - we started our first session with basically a few big parade laps - lead/follow. Next session they sent us out in small groups with one instructor leading and 3 student cars following. Last session Saturday we went out in the "usual" fashion, as we did for all sessions Sunday.

The tech garage folks offered to assist anybody who had issues with repairs, consultation on improvements, tweaks, etc. I noticed many folks took advantage of this.

My measure of the event was whether I learned and had fun. BIG YES to both. I learned a whole big lot about driving in general, and about driving Barber. By the end of the weekend, I was needing 4th gear in the straights (hellooooo rev limiter!) which I considered a sign of progress, at least as to comfort with increasing speed.

I'd be happy to answer any questions I've not covered here - hit me up.

TWO THUMBS UP for this event!
