  • tgpr track day aug16

A day at the track is better than a day at work. At least at work they pay me.
2 sessions done and already a lunch break. Didn't get on track until after 10:00. So far an expensive day.
    I has the sad face.

I was looking to do a marathon session non stop

Did you see any filming going on? I saw the "hot girl" eat lunch then leave. Weird day.

Not really ... they had a camera set up on pit road while we were being blocked by the corvette and one set up looking at turn three for a while but I never really saw anyone using them. ????

Early in the day they were doing some filming from just past where the Kharman Ghias were parked. Past that I didn't see much. I think it might be considered Freaky Friday to have three Miatas lined up to pass a Corvette! Well, weird day or not I had a really fun time. I appreciate the guidance that was kindly given on my very first day to really run hard on a track. Met some nice folks and found out my car gets about 12 miles to the gallon when I'm running that hard. That is by far the hardest I've pushed it with the turbo on my car. I was happy it held up. The G-Force Rivals did a nice job too. I'm thinking some new brake pads are going to be needed. Ton of dust on the wheels when I got home. Anyhow, thanks to Mark for helping to get this lined up for us. Missed seeing him today!

And here it is: The most ridiculous session ever. (I did cut about four minutes of clean laps off the beginning.)

I wish I had video of trying to lap the guy in the Corvette. Its a sad day when a CRX drags a Vette down the straight away.

It was a very weird day to say the least.

Brett...your CRX is not your everyday CRX...You really had it humming around the track. I was impressed with the way it/you performed relative to the other cars there...

The corvette guy obviously doesn't have a left arm. Can't point it seems. I would have had the sad face too. Or mad face. Whichever.

He was actually a pretty nice guy. I had spoken with him earlier in the day, and I spoke with him a bit after the run group finished. He was simply clueless as to what was supposed to happen on the track. I believe he was in some manner associated with the event sponsors and I think they just said, go out and give it a try. He didn't know about point-bys, and could not have give one anyway because his driver's side window didn't work! I don't know how hard he was pushing it on the straights relative to the speed he had available. The curves were painful to watch, even for me and I wouldn't know the right line unless it walked up and slapped me. To me, the bottom line is whoever gave him permission to get on the track in the first place (without an instructor or any instructions) put his and potentially others' safety at risk.

To me, the weirdest part of the whole thing was the choice of car they picked for the 'infomercial'. If I was trying to reach out and recruit new members and young blood, I'd have been spotlighting a Honda Fit/Mazda 2, Focus, or Fiesta or something like that. What appeal does a 30+ year old smoking Karman Ghia hold for anyone under 50? Heck, I'm over 50 and I didn't find it the least bit interesting. Just my 2 cents on weird.

                        Brett, Message received. Thanks!

Odd, but fun, day at the track. Thanks for the heads-up, invite Kilgore. Good luck with the first day of classes. The first semester is without a doubt the worst.

So, not to beat a dead horse, but my dad took this shot and I thought it worth sharing.
