TGPR track day opportunity, 1/12/12

For anyone interested, I received the information below regarding a track day coming up at TGPR on Jan 12th. The organizer is John Graham. John & his son Ethan attended our final Teen Driver Clinic this Fall.

Hi Rod,

I know this is not Solo nor Time Trials but it is getting a car on a track in a safe environment. My friend and I each have a 1974 BMW 2002 and he is organizing a track day Talladega Grand Prix for January 12th. We are looking to rent the track for the full day and are looking to get 16 (up to 20) drivers to come on out. So far we have 10 drivers - cars ranging from our little '02's to Porsche's and other faster cars. We would break the groups into the appropriate levels based on skills and cars. With about 16 drivers, it would be about $100 dollars for the full day - can't beat that! We would need an answer by the end of December.

IF I can get a certain oil consuming blue and yellow thing back together that would be a great time to do some on track testing/engine break-in.

But that's a big if

I take it track days like this require only a seatbelt and a helmet, and long pants?

No other safety stuff necessary? Tech, etc?

I'm one of the ten, going to blow the dust of off the old e21 and see if it still runs? If not it will be a Rallycross Escort! I think you are responsible for your own tech. , most track days have gone to self tech.'s The impression I have gotten is that this is going to be very layed back track day , sounds like we may swap up working corners for each other? don't know for sure

They'll probably use the self-tech forms the track provides for their fun days, http://tgprace.com/Feedback/Technical_Inspection.pdf , or will designate somebody to do autocross-style tech.

I've seen track management work one, six, and the crossing for their events, and groups have been allowed to provide workers, so either could happen.

I'm just unhappy that it's a Thursday, but I understand that rent's at least $300 cheaper mid-week.

Here's an idea: Post the bulletin elsewhere besides on the forum, like maybe the website calender. It's easier for members to plan for events if they can jump right to the calender, instead of sifting through a forum.
