  • 2018 ALSCCA /TVR Barber Club race

The 2018 Barber Club race with ALSCCA and TVR is in the books and done! Big thanks to Mark Rothermel and the TVR gang that does so much for this event. We really couldn't do it without you. Thank you!

Thanks also to Alfa Romeo of Birmingham for the use of the Guilia pace car. What a beautiful car.
We had a plan and worked the plan all weekend and adjusted as needed. We had good response form the drivers and workers. What a great weekend of racing and hanging out with friends both new and old. We had a good crowd of racers and workers registered. Thank you for that! We could always use a few more hands to make the work easier and a few people stepped up to do just that.

Lyle Cain worked the move in as well as 2 days on grid and helping me with hauling stuff in.
Rod Hardiman and John Graham for their traffic direction and pace car duties as well as getting the lunch set up for the workers. Lacey and James Truett, Matt Ford and Mark Stewart for the grid help and corner work. Jonathan and Angela Lovell, Chuck Schultz, Cameron Caten, Jim Farris for holding down a corner all weekend. Nick Vagner and Sean Yoder for keeping us informed and entertained from the announce booth. Christine Fairweather, Jeff McDonald, Ken Ostyre and Nancy Pratt for waving flags at the starter station. Miles Crabbe and Mike Wenning for helping out with T&S. Andy Tow for taking on the Safety Steward position for the Time Trial drivers. I'm sure I missed a few but know that your support is appreciated. Thank you!

This event isn't just for road racers it is a Club event that WE all are a part of. Proceeds from this event help fund Track days and Autox expenses and other club maintenance. We are all in this together and we really could use the help to make it all a little bit easier.

As far as I know, we will be back for 2019 and will, as always, need your support. See you then if not sooner at another ALSCCA event.

    thank you

It has always amazed me at the number of moving parts there are in putting on a road race. This one ran very well, both days we stayed on schedule...amazing. In T&S we had two folks walk up and worked both days. They had just started auto crossing and wanted to help out. One of them worked registration in the morning, T&S in the afternoon and her daughter worked corner both day. Thanks to everyone for the hard work.

As usual Mr W8 did a fantastic job of herding all us cats. It was an excellent weekend & event but it was really great seeing so many ALSCCA folks who were new to working a road race. Great job everyone!

Those who have never taken on the responsibility of being the Barber Race Chair can not fully appreciate the total effort and commitment that is required. It starts with the negotiations (sometimes hostile) with Barber that begin in January and continue throughout the year. The pre-event pleading for worker support begins at the SEDIV Annual Meetings and continues through the race. Arranging for Worker Chiefs is a struggle. The pre-event paperwork (sanction/insurance, supps, etc) is important. Design and order the trophies. As one gets closer to the race, the pace increases because there are a million little things that can trip you up. Oh yeah, the last month is spent watching the entries and praying there are enough to break even financially. The race weekend itself is a continuous circus. Everybody wants something and there are numerous real-time issues to solve. If rain happens, then the rescheduling can get to be real fun. Post race is where the payments get made, bank deposits come due, SCCA and SEDIV want their due.

Thru all this, the joy is seeing the smiles on the worker and drivers faces when they have had a good, nee GREAT, time.

Everybody owes a huge thanks to Mark -- without him there would be no Barber SARRC/TT. Thanks are due to John Waight as well for the many hours spent arranging for lunches and the many things that go unnoticed unless they are absent. There are many people who devote their time on the race weekend who get thanks as well. It takes a village!

          Bravo Zulu!
