There was a call for workers but the corner workers are all covered by Fanesha. They asked for help in tech but then said they had plenty of help for tech. I think Chuck Schultz was looking for help with sound control and Steve Conrad was looking for help in Timing and Scoring.

I'm excited to see a good-sized group of F5 cars, and look forward to seeing Atoms race, too, in addition to the more-traditional FF and FV groups.

The number of TVR and ALSCCA members who have signed up is pretty puny. If there is anyone else out there who can support this event, please sign up.

Posting here as well as the other thread...

Honest questions...with 41 workers signed up and F&C otherwise covered, just how many more could be used and for what assignments?

There is no doubt there is a need for volunteers for this and other events like it. Here's a question for you, would people be more likely to volunteer if they knew what they were volunteering for?

With Flagging and Communications, you have a pretty good idea what you are going to do. Flag and Communicate and watch the race from the 2nd best seat at the track. In this case they are sold out and all the F&C jobs are filled. What does that leave? Grid, Registration, Tech, Impound, Timing and Scoring, Stewards. All of these positions need helpers. Registration and Timing are indoor jobs while the others are outside in the elements. Without volunteer workers we don't have events or we overwork the few volunteers we have which leads to former volunteers and an expired racing program. I don't know the answer but I know the club needs it's members to support all aspects of the clubs programs in order to keep them active. I wish the club still required a certain amount of work time prior to getting a racing license. Couldn't hurt to know how things work at a race before you become a participant.

The National office is having this race at Barber to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the FF class and they need our help to work the event. I'm helping. Will you?

that was basically my point. It might be better to post a real need ("we need two people for X, 1 person for y, etc") to get support. Personally I would rather know I'm actually needed somewhere rather than sign up and find myself not really being used...not that I'm saying that is the case here, but it does happen.

Yep, that was my thought as well.

There are 41 workers so far and 48 drivers.

I personally could use a couple people Friday evening to help with getting the racers moved in and getting some things set up. Anyone with autocross early setup experience would be qualified for this.

And I'm sure the timing and scoring/race administration people wouldn't mind having an extra hand or two with things.

During the event each day, a couple people to help make sure that all the workers and drivers have access to water/snacks/whatever would be nice, as it's a lot for one person. If you'd like to help with any of these things, send me or Craig a message and let us know you'd like to help and we'll get you out there!

Thanks to everyone that has volunteered so far, and don't forget that just three weeks later on Labor Day weekend, we have our regional race and will need all the same positions filled!

Well the ALSCCA wasn't quite so puny.
                            A big thanks to:
Joe Clayburn (Grid) Never did grid before and did great
                            Susan Clayburn (T&S)
                            Chuck Schultz (Sound control)
NickyV (Associate Race chair) Never did it before but did great
                            Hans Mohnen (Start)
Delanie Calhoun (Tech shed) Never did it before and did great
Ted Openshaw (F&C on Saturday, T&S and Grid on Sunday)

I received on the job training in grid to help Joe as well as alternating with Tech shed duties. Thank God it was on the same end of the paddock.

It was hot and humid over the weekend but it was worth it to provide much needed support for the national office at the 45th Birthday party for Formula Ford. I think they had a good time. New track records were set. Some close racing and some absolute blow out races were seen. Joseph Neugarden, yes of IndyCar fame, started the 21 lap race at the back of the 12 car field and raced his way to first in 9 laps then battled for the lead for the rest of the race.

We could use some help over Labor Day weekend to cover some positions. See some race cars up close, watch some great racing and work on your end of summer tan. Come on out and enjoy the track, support your club and be part of the team!

Thanks to all our regional members that came out to help! Event seemed to go quite smoothly, and everyone seemed to have a good time.

Let's all do it again in a few weeks!
