We are checking with the motels but nothing great so far. Hampton Inn will give you a rate but it is the same as AAA, Corporate, AARP, or another rate they already give to anybody.

Registered as a Worker 'I want to work but don't know where I'm needed'.

I want to work, but I'm as green as they come right now

Edit: Looking back historically the trend is F&C needs warm bodies. Let me know if I need to do some homework on that role.

F&C is most likely where most help will be needed. If you've never flagged an event, it isn't too difficult. Think autocross, but with a bit more to watch, and less cone chasing. We'll be sure to stick you out there with someone who doesn't mind showing you the ropes.

                Thanks for volunteering!

This would have been helpful before the first time I did F&C. Red and yellow vertical stripes don't mean "Go Gryffindor".

                    Hah! Thanks Joseph!

I've found the ATL and Cal Club's guides, more info is better!

Are orange gloves necessary? Or what's advisable?

Plan on wearing a white shirt and preferably white or khaki pants. Comfortable shoes. You will not be wearing gloves, but you might want some with you just in case. Might want ear plugs..up to you. Bring a small cooler for water, etc and bring snacks. I suggest a small pad and a pencil to keep track of incident details, leaders, etc. Any gear needed for the weather, but I would not bring an umbrella.

I usually take a backpack with all my supplies, a cooler for 6 or so drinks, a fan/blower, and maybe a folding chair. Remember you will be on station all day except for lunch (maybe...I have worked events where lunch was brought out to the workers, but that is not the norm) so plan to carry everything you need, and plan to not leave it out overnight.

What Rod says is a good start. Here's a page with lots of info if you want to dive in a bit deeper - http://www.yopics.net/Flaggin/

You will not be forced to stay on the corner during lunch break for a Club Race. Do bring gloves and wear ear plugs. Always assume that all car or motorcycle parts found on the track surface are hot. Also, I have personally had a measurable hearing loss from a one-time exposure to a particular SCCA-legal race car.

Thanks Rod and Chuck! All good stuff here. I'll be prepared.

Turns out I've got just about everything already.

Now just to show up. Are we going to get an email with where we need to be and when, closer to the race?

Be at the base of the tower about 715 am (unless you find out different, but it never hurts to be early). Look for all the other folks wearing white. Mingle.

They will take you out to your station about 745 or so. Workers gotta be out and ready to go so cars can hit the track at 8am.

For folks who need to rent transponders for the event, I just called Trackside Tim and they no longer reserve rentals over the phone. You must email them at tim@tracksidetim.com
