Maybe a stupid question, but why is there qualifying on Friday, when there is also qualifying on Sat and Sun? Isn't Friday just a practice day?

          Tim,

It's part of the National deal. It's not really a practice day but rather a 20 min practice session with 2 qualifying sessions after.

I don't know why but I had the same question

John, I'm still confused as there are qualifying sessions on both Sat and Sun for those races So what exactly do the Friday qualifying sessions count towards?

Is Friday just like "bonus" qualifying time? Like it just extends the amount of time you get to set a good time?

                RTFS - http://atlantascca.org/documents/Rac...02%20Supps.pdf

                ------------begin quote from Supplemental Regulations----------

                5. Friday Procedures: Unlike past years at this event, Friday is NOT a test day. For a nominal fee ($100) each group will be offered a twenty
minute practice session then two fifteen minute qualifying sessions. The first qualifying session will apply to Saturday’s race and the second
will count toward Sunday. Drivers that are running just the Pro-IT race are welcome to participate in the “normal” run group for their car as
practice and testing, but the ONLY qualifying session for the Pro-IT race is Saturday’s twenty minute session.

                ---------------------end quote------------------

I guess the advantage, in addition to dirt-cheap track time, is that of having an opportunity to qualify on an additional day with the chance of having different weather and/or traffic from the regular qualifying sessions on race days.

Paul, why not run the Pro-IT? You could show a fellow z-car driver how to run Barber.
Again to meet the GCR requirements for a Double Rational we added Friday with a 20-minute practice session and two 15-minute qualifiers, so it could effectively be viewed as a test day. And for only $100 more than Sat/Sun only it's a bargain!

Barber management does not conduct the test days like most other tracks in SEDiv do. Although we could have conducted one ourselves, we predicted it would be a money-loser and most/many racers would balk at spending a fourth day at the track (even one as nice as Barber is).

I was thinking that National races required more track time availability, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the additional info.

Isn't having the FMs and S2000 in with the FV/FF crowd a bit strange? They usually run with the CSR/DSR/FE/FB guys

Almost as weird as having the SRF's in with IT.

As discussed earlier, there may be a split start for the IT guys depending on how many people sign up! But I agree with Chuck!
