Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

  • Save the Date 2021 Club Race, Aug 27, 28, 29

It’s that time of the year again, for the August 28/29 SCCA Club Race at Barber co-sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Region and the Alabama Region. For you new folks, this is our premier event that can’t operate without your help. We need every type of volunteer you can imagine:
    • parking guides on Friday evening
    • water and lunch deliverers
    • parking guides in grid
    • car pushers in post-race impound
    • trophy managers and presenters
    • keen eyes in timing and scoring
    • qualified and apprentice Time Trials Stewards
    • an assistant (gopher) for our race chairman
    • assistant to the registrar (Fri and Sat)
    • turn workers (many bodies, we will put you with someone experienced for flagging and communications (F&C) – see note.
When I first pursued a racing license with the International Conference of Sports Car Clubs in the Pacific Northwest, all novices had to work in both timing and scoring (paper and common clock) and F&C. It gave us an appreciation for what went on behind the scenes to allow us to race. Fast forward 30 years and I started flagging occasionally at Barber. It is absolutely the “second best” seat in the house. Volunteers must be SCCA members (we will pay for your weekend membership), a $50 per day stipend is paid, and lunch is provided for all volunteers.

Important Notes: If you volunteer to work a turn and you don’t have any experience, please note that on your registration. Minors can work in the “cold” areas, but you must be 19yo to work on a corner. SCCA minor waivers aren’t easy to accomplish, they can’t be done at the track without both parents present. If you have a minor wanting to volunteer, please make sure the waiver is done ahead of time. Bring the original and a copy, it’s good for a year.
If you are interested in helping out at our club race Aug 27-28-29, please register at: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...-valley-655227 Post any questions under the Club Racing section on our Forum at: http://www.alscca.net/community/ or contact the Race Chairman, Mark Rothermel at m.rothermel@yahoo.com.

Below are some pictures taken from Barber turn stations to whet your appetite for a fun weekend. Don’t stop until you get to the last one, you’ll know which one it is.

    See you at Barber

Occasionally, the excitement comes to you! This is the first lap of the 2021 Indy Car race. I was the turn worker at station 5 who was just beginning to wave the yellow flag. Not every race is like this, but this one was “Capital E” Excitement!
