Actually yes. Not all the races were televised back in the day so I can't say that I saw it, but as recent as 1977 there was only 1 road race on the USAC schedule.

    From Wiki:
For example, the 1970 USAC Championship schedule comprised 18 races, with 11 paved oval tracks, 5 dirt tracks, and 2 road courses. The road racers were not interested in dirt track racing and eventually convinced USAC to drop the dirt tracks from the Championship schedule following the 1970 season. However, there was not enough interest in road course racing and it did not expand to fill the void created by dropping the dirt tracks. By 1977, the USAC Championship schedule had shrunk to 14 races with 13 oval tracks and 1 road course.

Ditto. I absolutely hate it when they do this.

You mean the cup guys do more than 2 road courses per year these days?

I like that in GT racing the cars at least look and sound different. Listening to Grand Am GT a couple years ago was fun - in-line 6, V8, flat 6, and rotary all on the track together.

Seriously, what racing series isn't some sort of spec racing?

Indy was great but Monaco was a bit of a let down. If Hamilton would've gotten a chance to get at Rosberg it might've been a different story but the safety car period messed up any chance at pulling off some strategy. However, Bianchi scoring a point in the Marussia was pretty cool.

The 500 didn't need any cautions it just needs better TV coverage. ABC insists on watching the top five saving fuel instead of cars making their way through the field. And at the end I really couldn't care less about the driver's wives and girlfriends!!!

... but yeah, awesome race. I know the racing snobs are down on Indycar these days because it's a spec series but they have the most entertaining races right now by far (out of the top tier series).
