How about diesel fuel? - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3EOHKWRufs
Seriously, though, I do remember an old Chevelle running the Power Tour autocross with a diesel engine. . . maybe this guy - http://www.dieselpowermag.com/featur...hevy_chevelle/
Then there are all of the German diesels which might have some kind of TT potential.Chuck Schultz

The firewall may also be modified for maintenance reasons. If you want to cut a little trap door so you can easily get to a drain plug that is otherwise located in an extremely difficult position, then you can do that so long as the "door" is sealed when its shut. There is nothing that links the roll cage and motor swap together. Or vice versa. They are all independent of each other.
If this is the case, might as well just leave the roll cage reference out all together. Just let it be covered under safety equipment. There are some engine swaps which require some slight firewall mods, I think. So might as well allow minor firewall mods to allow engine swap or exhaust routing. Fire wall must remain in the stock location.
Can probably just state that SU cars must meet GCR safety regs in regards to sealing holes in the firewall and such.

Below is my answer to the question of why the need for the re-write, what about existing SU/SM logbooked cars, and where will the guys with Atoms, Locost 7s, Cobras, 818s, etc run if we rule them out.
would grandfather existing SU/SM cars with log books as they were running before the rules changed.
We have had an Atom show up in the last year at several events, I also believe there was a Cobra that ran, although I think it was a true race car. The Locost couldn't run even in street mod as it didn't have a windshield, working wipers, etc. That was always my contention with Bruce's 7 replica.
I don't know that there can be a "class killer" in a class like SU. We had a built Ariel Atom last year and he was fast, but not that fast, There is another Locost type car running out of NC that was fast but never really class killing fast. In my experience with the class, it seems like the really fast cars kinda go away after a season or two.
Take Scott B, Andy Tow, Me, Pat what's his name, etc. We all had top of the field SU/SM cars. We ran them for a season and then went to do different things or changed cars and classes, etc. However the class is very healthy and there are always new neat cars that show up.
I am not sure the rules need to be changed. We haven't really had those cars, that the rules committee seems to be worried about, show up and "kill the class". This "clarification of the rules" isn't really necessary.
What was so hard about "here are the rules, you can do pretty much anything you want"? That was one of the cool things about the class. You could do anything you wanted. Think of the technology that could show up in the class if someone wanted to build it. Active aero, that would be awesome, electric cars, diesel cars, propane powered cars, etc. You could have a good place to some really neat cars to run, if the class is open enough. Remember all this "cool stuff" costs money and if someone wants to spend their money there why not?

Most of us that run the events have seen what shows up at Various events. Plus we all look at the end of the year results and we aren't seeing a single car type that is just dominating all of the events. We seem to have a nice broad spread of makes and models in the SU results.
Just because a specific car/driver wins one event doesn't mean they win the whole season. Points still matter.
