Managing the race weekend is a bit like making sausage. First we figure out a schedule that has a chance of getting everything completed during the day. Then reworking it constantly to account for all the little issues (track comms are not ready at 0800 (30 minute hit), cars have to be pulled off the track by a wrecker, RAIN, Lightening, etc, etc, etc). Every time an extra issue hits us, we adjust the schedule, often in ways that the driver cannot see. When you get a large hit due to whatever, then the schedule adjustments have to be made to make up for the large amounts of time. Usually, we can rent additional time on Saturday from Barber and actually get the Saturday schedule completed on Saturday.

Ummm yeah I really did need to read the supps so that I didn't demonstrate my cluelessness .... but I did truly think that it was a constant that you qualified both days because it was a "double" SARRC and they were totally separate events. I have leaned something new . Imagine what I could learn if only I read all the supps

What? Read the supps?? Now you're just being unreasonableOriginally posted by farrout View PostI would hate to count all the questions I answered for drivers when all the information was clearly spelled out in the supps.
Seriously...very nice job by all involved to make the most of some trying circumstances. I will settle for 80% of the scheduled TT sessions since 100% of that 80% occurred on a dry track

I should have kept my mouth shut since I have no clue how all this works ... I was just frustrated at the loss of track time.
Big thanks to all the workers, especially the guys who did F&C out in the heat all weekend!

If one were to read the supps, you might find that the Sat Qual, Sat Race/Qual and Sun Qual all contributed to the Sunday race. The best time of the 3 would be your time for the race grid.Originally posted by zukitek View PostDelanie...the reason why each race group qualifies both days is because they are 2 totally differant races. Saturday is an event and Sunday is an event so you have to qualify for each seperately. That is what is meant by Double SARRC. It was unfortunate that things worked out like they did . For me this is just 1 of countless opportunities per year to go to Barber but the only timed competition event . For me the 1st and 2nd sessions of saturday were too close . It would have been nice if they could have had a qualifying session to allow us to get out ...cool off....and get ready to go again. At a TT only event we would usually have a PDX or club trial group to space it out a little . Just my input . Im sure there were intentions behind doing it the way it was ...just saying...it was not ideal from a TT only competitors POV.
Im not bellyaching ...I had a good time.

Charles D'AmbroseOriginally posted by JohnW8 View PostI appreciate all the efforts involved to make sure no one lost any more track time than absolutely necessary. I really did work out well considering the torrential goose drowner that hit on Saturday. I know of one guy who missed his group 3 race on Sunday morning because the schedule change email had a mistake and didn't mention group 3. He assumed group 3 got cut due to rain/lightning. I had a blast and was never so happy to find a loose ground wire in my life.
Is there a list of all the ALSCCA workers that helped out at the event?
Mark Kilgore
Hans and Jean Mohnen
Ted Openshaw
Ricky Ragan
Chuck Schultz
C&Sara Tongsuvone
Nick Vagner
Mike Wenning
Those are the ALSCCA names I recognize from the list of registered workers. I'm sure there's more that I don't recognize.

Spacing Sat's TT sessions would have been nice. As Ricky said, they had to have qualifying, and there were also Sun only drivers that needed to post qual times for Sunday's races.
The Sunday afternoon TT session that was cut was 15min. Due to both shortened qualifying sessions and races, the SARRC entrants lost a combined 15min of track time as well. No one wants to cut anyone else's track time, but at least we were able to cut all entrants's times equally. We ended up having a little time Sunday afternoon, but we couldn't have been sure because all it would have taken would be for there to have been a big clean up, or more foul weather and our schedule could have gone down the drain again.

Worked T&S and enjoyed it. Those veteran Tapers don't mess around. You block their view at you own peril. It was fun to see the bosses jump and move out of the way. It looked like our club had lots of drivers as well as workers. Nice to see Vince's car on track after all the hard work. Ricky's 240 looked fast. Andy had the bad luck of losing a clutch on Sat. W8's Miata hung in there in a fast run group. And it was air-conditioned.

Well, race groups 4, 5 & 6 got 15 minutes today while we got 45 minutes...and they paid more. Sucks that we only get one run tomorrow but at least it will be during the "fast" time of the day.

"The storm this afternoon has forced us to adjust the schedule for Sunday.
At 0800 the 9 lap SARRC/SECS races for Saturday, Run Groups 4 5 and 6 will occur.
Next will be 15 minute sessions for TTA, TTB, and TTC. The afternoon TT sessions
are cancelled.
Sunday qualifying sessions for SARRC/SECS will be 10 minutes each.
Sunday SARRC/SECS races will remain at 15 laps or 30 minutes at this time.
Schedule will be re-evaluated during the 1100-1200 quiet hour.
Rick Mitchell,Chief Steward
Nick Voigt, Chair SOM"
I don't understand why the race groups need to qualify again .... and race group five, which consists of FIVE CARS, will get an HOUR of track time tomorrow while I get fifteen minutes. Somebody help me out here.
